Euphoria is more than a show; it’s a state of mind. Fans adore the characters and tales, but many are also drawn to the Euphoria aesthetic, particularly the one that creates the enviable aura that surrounds fan favorite character Jules, played by the stunning and brilliant trans model/actress Hunter Schafer.

Jules has possibly the most bizarre appearance, with Elle Australia describing it as “bubblegum pop princess meets E-girl fantasy.” Her outfits are usually brightly colored, with meticulous attention to detail in both her accessories and hairstyles.

On Euphoria, Jules’ hair was undoubtedly an extension of her inner growth, with the ends of her ethereal platinum blonde strands dyed a different hue to symbolize her mood throughout the first season. Hunter Schafer is finally giving fans an explanation for why her character’s distinctive hair was altered.

Hunter confessed that she wanted to shave her head before the first season of the show, but she couldn’t since she is a model.

Hunter explained Jules’ hairdo to Entertainment Weekly, saying: “I’ve been wanting to cut my hair for a long time, even before season 1 probably. I was a model at the time, and the agencies have first say over what you do with your look. So I hadn’t really had the opportunity to change it when I was a model.”

“And then of course, for continuity sake, I couldn’t change it once I was on Euphoria,” she said. “So it had to be something that we would’ve had to work into the story somehow. And so that’s why I ended up just begging Sam over and over again to work in a haircut for Jules.”

Schafer begged HBO Max program producer Sam Levinson to let her cut her hair after the first season’s incessant dyeing left it damaged, stating, “my hair was fried from being bleached so much, so I just wanted to chop as much off as I could.”

“And yeah, they let me do it.”

Sam ultimately gave in to Hunter’s constant pleadings.

Hunter isn’t the only member of the Euphoria cast to request that their character’s look be changed. Jacob Elordi requested not to wear any more slim pants in season 2 of Euphoria, according to costume designer Heidi Bivens.
