In an Instagram post posted Sunday, Bridgerton actor Nicola Coughlan requested fans not to comment on her body, noting that “it’s really hard to take the weight of thousands of opinions on how you look being sent directly to you every day.”

The actress, who portrays Penelope Featherington on the blockbuster Netflix series, issued the appeal alongside a mirror selfie.

“Hello! So just a thing — if you have an opinion about my body please, please don’t share it with me,” she said to her 1.2 million Instagram followers. “Most people are being nice and not trying to be offensive but I am just one real life human being and it’s really hard to take the weight of thousands of opinions on how you look being sent directly to you every day.”

“If you have an opinion about me that’s ok, I understand I’m on TV and that people will have things to think and say,” she said, “but I beg you not to send it to me directly ❤️.”

Fans flocked to her side, applauding her for speaking out against body shaming. “Thank you for being real, being honest, being yourself,” one fan wrote.

“You are so talented and gorgeous that I can’t believe anyone could have anything else to say!” said another fan.

Coughlan is the latest star to ask for an end to body comments.

Last year, Jonah Hill begged his three million Instagram followers to refrain from making harsh or favorable comments about his body.

“I know you mean well but I kindly ask that you do not comment on my body (heart emoji) good or bad I want to politely let you know it’s not helpful and doesn’t feel good. Much respect,” he penned

In an interview with The Irish Times, Coughlan addressed uninvited body complaints ahead of Bridgerton’s launch in December 2020. While acting as Clare Devlin in the sitcom Derry Girls, she pondered on being dubbed “the big one”

“It was wild, because I was size 10 filming series one and I got called ‘the big one,'” Coughlan explained. “‘I was, like, ‘Are you serious?’ I’m not this gigantic sumo wrestler, and even if I were, would it matter? Would it be relevant?”

On both her tweet and Instagram post, the “Derry Girls” star disabled replies and comments.

While Coughlan did not reveal what prompted the request, she recently spoke to Elle UK on the intensity of fame and how it has affected her over the years.

She remarked, “Being famous is like being a dog on the Tube. It’s exactly the same energy. When you get on, everyone looks at you. Some people are so smiley, while some are afraid of you and don’t want to go near. Some people touch you without asking. I can still do the things I want to do, obviously, but it is different.”

“I went to the pub with my friend a while back and it was like being an animal at the zoo,” she continued. “People just watching and looking. And I remember one time I was taking my Invisalign out, and this person was staring me right in the eyes, which was quite weird. But, honestly, most people are so, so lovely.”

“Critics, judge me for my work in Derry Girls and on the stage, not on my body,” Nicola wrote in an essay for The Guardian in June 2018. She remembered how her hard effort in a performance had been turned to harsh remarks about her beauty. She went on to say that she hopes that in the future, more people would speak about our work, our inspirations, and our drive rather than our looks. ” A revolution is happening, and I want to play my part in it,” she wrote.
