After his daughter, Meghan Markle, and her husband, Prince Harry, are among the few individuals chosen on the cover of Time magazine’s 100 most influential people issue, Thomas Markle allegedly isn’t thrilled.

Thomas Markle is captured on camera after visiting a magazine kiosk in Los Angeles in footage acquired by Fox News. He was asked about why he didn’t buy a copy of Time magazine, which listed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex among the world’s 100 “most influential people”

“Well that is only Time magazine’s opinion, there are far more influential people, like the Queen,” responds the Duchess’s father.

Thomas went into his nearby car and began browsing through a magazine, which he eventually purchased. He turned to a page with a portrait of Meghan Markle, Prince Harry, and baby Archie. Perhaps believing it was a photo of Lilibet Diana, the cameraman inquired about Thomas’ reaction to seeing his grandchild for the first time. “Well, she’s beautiful. That’s all I can say. Very beautiful,” Thomas responded, looking at the photo in the magazine.

Chef José Andrés, a star in many circles for his work, presented Meghan and Prince Harry with an award for their activism and generosity. Olympian Simone Biles, singer and vaccine investor Dolly Parton, and Russian activist Alexei Navalny, to mention a few, have all been included to the Time100 list. “They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production,” chef Andrés said in his essay about the pair.

“Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need — offering mental-health support to black women and girls in the US and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean,” he continued.

It should go without saying that the Time 100 isn’t a ranking of the world’s best 100 individuals. It’s difficult to imagine how one might even come up with a rating. It’s not a who’s who of world leaders, billionaires, and tastemakers. Being included in its pages has a certain amount of status, but it isn’t a ranking. Thomas is most likely trying to hurt his daughter by implying that they are unimportant.

Harry, whose 37th birthday was also on Wednesday, sat behind Meghan with a hand on her shoulder, dressed in all black. The 40-year-old former actress wore a white pantsuit with gold jewelry.

The magazine’s cover showed Prince Harry and Meghan against a forest backdrop. However, this has been widely criticized, resulting in a rush of memes. Many people have speculated that the photo shows Harry as a hairdresser showcasing his wife’s new hairstyle.

“The only effort in this pic is the person who’s photoshopped 2 different pictures together,” one person said.

Another pointed out, “Looks a bit too ‘plasticky’? The photoshop is rich on this one.”

“Terrible retouching job. They look CGI,” agreed a user.

“What a strange photo… it’s made to look like Harry is the same height as Meghan … is he bending over?” commented someone else.

Others, on the other hand, were on their side.

Meghan Markle does not have a relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, and hasn’t had one since 2018. Meghan addressed why she no longer speaks to her father during her sit-down interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired on March 7. According to People magazine, Meghan told Oprah that her father had lied to her about his relationship with the press, so she chose to stop speaking with him to safeguard the safety of her family.
