A series about Italian cuisine and culture beat Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s dramatic TV appearance with Oprah Winfrey at the Emmy Awards on Sunday.

In March, Oprah’s two-hour interview with Harry and Meghan sent shockwaves across the British monarchy when Meghan accused the British royal family of expressing worries over the couple’s first child’s skin color.

The Duchess also confessed that the pressures of living as a royal newlywed drove her to contemplate suicide.

It was the couple’s first televised interview since their decision to leave their royal responsibilities and relocate to California in early 2020, and it was viewed by more than 49 million people globally in the first three days, according to CBS television.

On July 14, it was revealed that Oprah’s interview with the royals was competing in the best hosted nonfiction series category against Stanley Tucci: Searching For Italy, My Next Guest Needs No Introduction With David Letterman, and Vice showtime.

Oprah and her team were nominated for an Emmy Award, but they lost to Stanley Tucci’s travel and cuisine show Searching For Italy.

Neither Harry nor Meghan attended the low-key Emmy Awards event for creative arts, which comes before the major program next week.

Tucci’s CNN show is six episodes long, and it follows him as he travels throughout Italy, sampling traditional meals and learning about the country’s secrets.

The two-hour program aired on March 7 and sparked outrage after Meghan and Harry revealed some disturbing details during their interview with Oprah.

Harry disclosed an extraordinary rift with his father, claiming that his family had cut him off financially and that the Queen had been ill-advised in canceling a meeting at Sandringham.

Meghan and Harry were reportedly said to be “nervous” about the Oprah interview, according to a book.

Meghan additionally accused her sister-in-law Kate of making her weep, claimed senior royals conspired to deny Archie a title or appropriate security, and claimed authorities failed to defend the pair against ‘racist’ criticism while lying to protect other royals.

When a tape of their notorious interview was played during the National Television Awards event last week, the Duke and Duchess were booed and jeered. ‘It was as though they were pantomime villains,’ said one member of the crowd.
