Quentin Tarantino revealed that he kept his promise to never give his mother a “penny” of his money after she disparaged his writing as a youngster.

Tarantino, 58, stated on a recent edition of The Moment podcast, which is hosted by Brian Koppelman, co-creator of Billions, that his teachers saw his passion as a “defiant act of rebellion.”

Tarantino said that his mother had a “hard time about my scholastic non-abilities” while he was creating scripts in school.

His mother didn’t want him writing in class while he was “supposed to be doing something else,” the director said.

“She was bitching at me about that,” Tarantino said, “and then, in the middle of her little tirade, she said, ‘Oh and by the way, this little writing career?’ — with the finger quotes — ‘this little writing career that you’re doing? That shit is fucking over!’ She just meant don’t do it in class when you’re supposed to be doing something else.”

“When she said that to me in that sarcastic way, I was in my head and I go: ‘OK, lady. When I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success. There will be no house for you. There’s no vacation for you; no Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing because you said that.”

When Koppelman asked whether Tarantino “stuck” to his vow, the 58-year-old director laughed and replied: “Yeah. Yeah. I helped her out with a jam with the IRS. But no house. No Cadillac, no house.”

He added: “There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children. Remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them.”

Tarantino’s mother sent a statement to USA TODAY on Wednesday in response to her son’s remarks about her, claiming that her son has her love and support.

“Regarding my son Quentin – I support him, I’m proud of him and love him and his growing new family,” she said. “It gave me great joy to dance at his wedding and receive his news upon the birth of my Grandson Leo.”

Tarantino has had a long and illustrious career as a screenwriter and filmmaker, with scores of Oscar nominations and two Oscar wins to his name. “Django Unchained,” his highest-grossing film, grossed nearly $420 million at the box office in 2012.

The Academy Award winner was promoting his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood paperback novelization. He also made waves recently when he gave an update on Kill Bill 3 and addressed his detractors and controversies.

Tarantino’s mother, Connie Zastoupil, is estimated to be approximately 75 years old. Curtis Zastoupil, her second husband, whom she met after she brought the family to Los Angeles, was said to be “encouraging” of Tarantino’s desire to produce films.
