William is believed to have been shocked by his brother and Meghan Markle’s stunning accusations about racist sentiments at the heart of the monarchy, as were millions across the world.

In March, Harry and Meghan sat down with talk show host Oprah Winfrey for a candid interview in which they leveled many allegations against the royal family.

Harry and Meghan claimed that a senior member of the royal family made a racist remark about the color of their unborn child’s skin, and that Meghan was denied treatment by a palace assistant after expressing suicide concerns. The royal family was “saddened to learn the full extent of how challenging the last few years have been for Harry and Meghan,” the palace said in a statement.

“Is the royal family a racist family?” William was asked shortly after the interview aired, during a visit to a school in London. He retorted, “We’re very much not a racist family.”

According to the writers of Finding Freedom, William was “understood to be ‘furious’ that private family matters were being discussed in the public domain.”

The re-released edition claims that the Duke of Cambridge is no longer likely to tackle the topic again.

Finding Freedom, first released last year, covers Harry and Meghan’s courtship and brief stint as members of the monarchy until they broke away to start a new life in the United States with their son Archie.

The Independent also reported Prince Harry was “saddened and disappointed by the decision” to refuse his requests to lay a Remembrance Sunday war wreath in November.

Harry served in the military for ten years before relocating to California and stepping down from his role in the royal family. He gave up his military duties, including his position as Captain General of the Royal Marines.

Every year, the royal family meets at The Cenotaph in London for the UK’s version of Memorial Day, however owing to COVID-19, the duke was unable to attend.

The writers of Finding Freedom say that the Royal British Legion had ordered a red poppy wreath for Prince Harry. “But as the day came and went, Harry’s gesture remained in its box at the charity’s headquarters in Kent.” According to Scobie and Durand, Harry’s request was refused because he was no longer a “frontline royal,” with a “close source” close to the Duke saying he was “saddened and disappointed” by the decision. “Ten years of service and a lifetime commitment to the military community and this is how it’s been acknowledged by his family,” the insider continued.

The book will be re-released in paperback next week and will have a new epilogue.

Meanwhile, a friend of Meghan’s informed the writers that the duchess found the Oprah interview “cathartic.” “All the things she had kept to herself or been too afraid to say [as a working member of the royal family] she felt safe to finally share. It was liberating .” According to the writers, no one in the royal family was aware of the Oprah interview until it was made public.

Buckingham Palace released a statement following the broadcast, stating they were “saddened” by the claims, but that “some recollections may vary.”
