According to a former friend of the actress, Meghan Markle aspired to be “a London girl.”

Lizzie Cundy, a TV personality and former acquaintance of Meghan Markle, claims the American actress had her heart set on finding a British guy when she first arrived in the UK.

At a red carpet event, the Duchess of Sussex opened up to her ex-pal Lizzie Cundy – and made no secret of her desire to remain in the UK.

Meghan Markle’s choice of Prince Harry was no mistake, according to TV and radio broadcaster Lizzie Cundy.

“We have a clip of her saying: ‘I want to be a London girl, I love London men, and I love everything to do with London,’” Cundy told MailOnline.

While the two were formerly close, the TV personality claims that the now Duchess of Sussex “cut her off” and “ghosted” her when Prince Harry proposed.

“She ghosted me once the engagement hit. She’s ghosted quite a lot of people, obviously, including her family, so I’m not the worst person she’s ghosted,” Lizzie said.

“I’m afraid both Piers Morgan and I got ghosted.”

Meghan can be heard stating on the unreleased clip, “I’ve had the best time in London, fans are amazing. “It is very cold but the people are so warm as cheesy as that sounds, I was joking that I’ve never been called ‘love’ or ‘darling’ more in my life it makes me want to stick around for a while.”

Speaking to The Daily Mail, Lizzie said: “I was asked to look after Meghan when she came over here.

“She wanted to meet someone.

A spokeswoman for the duchess has been contacted by Yahoo UK for comment.

She met the American actress at a party in 2013, and the two hit it off right away, describing themselves as getting “on like a house on fire.”

Ms Cundy described Meghan as a “real girl’s girl” who “would love an English boyfriend.”

She stated, “She wanted fame and she was open about that.”

And then, just three years later, Meghan met Prince Harry, and the two married in 2018.

When Meghan was still best known for her part in the US show Suits, the former took her under her wing.

Meghan informed her about her divorce and her desire for an English lover.

She told Grazia: “When she first got together with Harry, I texted her to say how amazing it was and she did reply. But once the ring was on the finger, I soon realised she was off Twitter and that her number wasn’t working. And that was it.”

“Thank you Meghan. You ghosted me — and now you’re calling your child after me.”

She said, though, that she was “in no way upset” by it.

In a June interview, Ms Cundy joked that Meghan’s new kid was named after her, stating that her nickname at school was Lilibet.

“It’s short for Elizabeth. It was my nickname at school,” she said.

Meghan and Harry resided in London with Kate Middleton and Prince Harry at first, but relocated to Windsor later because they wanted to get away from the “goldfish bowl” lifestyle of being a Royal, according to sources.

Cundy was married to footballer Jason Cundy until December 2012, and has been a presenter for numerous years.
