A journalist friend of Meghan Markle attempted to defend her in a new documentary that explores if she had a part in the collapse of Prince Harry and Prince William’s brotherly bond, but appears to have validated some critics’ concerns about her.

Meghan was portrayed as a star in the new ITV documentary “Harry and William: What Went Wrong?” by writer Omid Scobie, who viewed herself as presenting a unique perspective to how the royal family should utilize their notoriety to advance their brand and issues they care about.

“Meghan came in driven and ready to work and that immediately ruffled feathers,” said Scobie, co-author of “Finding Freedom,” a sympathetic book about Harry and Meghan’s exit from royal life and move to the United States in 2020.

“She’s a woman well into her 30s,” Scobie, who also gives royal commentary for “Good Morning America,” added, “I think she’s proven to herself and the people she’s worked with up until that point that she knows what she’s doing.”

Meghan’s detractors would argue that it was arrogant of her to believe that the centuries-old monarchy would suddenly change its ways due to a newcomer. Meghan also “was certainly not someone who was going to change herself just to please the people around her,” Scobie noted.

Meghan reportedly resented being told that she and Harry were not as high in the royal hierarchy as William and Kate Middleton, because Harry is only sixth in line to the throne, while William will one day become king, according to Scobie.

“I felt they also had to be reminded: ‘You’re not the stars of the show here. There is a hierarchy and you don’t come very high in it,” Scobie said.
