Viewers have gone wild on social media after the release of the ‘cringeworthy’ new trailer for Lifetime’s Harry & Meghan: Escaping The Palace.

Social media users blasted the ‘ridiculous script’ and ‘overdramatic acting’ in the first-look trailer for Lifetime’s forthcoming film about Megxit, which imagines the Sussexes’ contentious relocation to the United States at the start of 2020.

This is third installment in the Lifetime series of dramatizations of the royal couple’s life.

Harry and Meghan: A Royal Romance and Harry and Meghan: Becoming Royal were released by Lifetime after the royal couple married on May 19, 2018.

The latest trailer from premiered Wednesday, and many were unimpressed.

The 20-second teaser includes reenactments of the Oprah interview, as well as many heated exchanges between Harry (played by Jordan Dean) and Meghan (played by Sydney Morton).

We have to concede that the accents are a fairly close match, but that’s about it.

Harry comforts Meghan and discusses her treatment by the press, saying, ‘I see you literally being hounded to death and I’m helpless to stop it.’

Meghan responds, ‘I am the person who is strong and gets things right. I can’t lose you.’

Fans were perplexed by the video, with some questioning whether the teaser was a joke.

‘Oh my goodness… I can’t stop laughing. I thought this was a joke, then realized it is actually a movie… which made me laugh even more…’ one said.

‘Omg I can’t stop cringing. That’s got to be the biggest cringe fest since Galloway was a cat on big brother,’ said another.

While some condemned the ‘awkward and fake facial expressions’ in the teaser, which was uploaded to the network’s Instagram account and is set to debut later this year, others thought the ‘cringey’ tone was a great match for the royal couple.

‘I have to congratulate Lifetime. You have perfected the overall CRINGEY tone of the Sussexes’ themselves FLAWLESSLY !! The ridiculous script, over-dramatic emoting voices, awkward & fake facial expressions. MASTEFUL biopic,’ one wrote.

It claims to show viewers “what really happened inside the Palace that drove Harry and Meghan to leave everything behind in order to make a future for themselves and their son Archie”

The movie will also “detail Meghan’s growing isolation and sadness, their disappointment that ‘The Firm’ was not defending them against the press’s attacks and Harry’s fear that history would repeat itself and he would not be able to protect his wife and son from the same forces that caused his mother’s untimely death”.

The film’s headline reads, ‘Not all fairytales have the ideal ending,’ as pictures of Harry and Meghan in trouble run past.
