Over 30,000 individuals have signed a petition asking Prince Harry to relinquish his royal titles.

The Duke of Sussex is under pressure to stop “doing damage to the institution of the monarchy” by standing down permanently.

Lady Colin Campbell, author of Meghan and Harry: The Real Story, initiated the petition.

It comes after Harry and Meghan declared earlier this year that they would be stepping down as senior royals forever.

She told the Daily Star that Harry should ask the Queen to place his titles in abeyance, which means they would be temporarily out of use or suspended.

“I started it because I think it’s the right thing to do,” she explained.

“I have spoken to people, many people, who think it’s the right thing to do and it is the solution.

“It is a dignified solution for all concerned. To humiliate no-one and protect everyone. I think it’s a humane way of solving a very regrettable situation.”

The royal expert believes Harry and Meghan Markle would be able to “sell their brand” even if they did not have royal titles.

“It is the best solution because it frees Harry to be able to indulge himself without consequence and without doing damage to the institution of the monarchy of the British nation, the British people and himself,” Lady Campbell said.

“So from that point of view it frees him and he is big enough that he doesn’t need the royal title, he’s gone beyond that, he doesn’t need them, they are shackles that he could well do without.

“He doesn’t need them – he is too big for them now.”

Lady C stated in a YouTube video that the pair may pose a “danger” to the royals.

“They are quickly developing two schools of thought,” she explained.

“One is that they are dangerous to the Crown, and the other is that they are so cack-handed, so crass, so vulgar, so common, so obvious and so artificial and pretentious that every time they open up their mouths they make enemies for themselves and are perfect foils for the good behaviour of all of the other royals.

“The jury is out on that one, but we will see.”

Her petition states: “The purpose is to invite Prince Harry to voluntarily ask The Queen to put his royal style, titles and rank into abeyance, thereby freeing him from the diplomatic, political and constitutional constraints that are an inevitable part of royal rank, and further freeing him from the constitutional conflicts which his beliefs are creating, with all their implications at home and abroad, in particular in the United Kingdom and the United States of America, where his articulated beliefs are in open conflict with the accepted tenets of both the United Kingdom and American Constitutions.

“As a purely private citizen, with no royal rank, style or title, he will be able to indulge his personal beliefs, as is the right of all private citizens, without the consequential possibility of damaging the institution of the Monarchy or relations between Friendly Powers, and will be free to articulate beliefs, no matter how objectionable, without the fallout that is otherwise inevitable as long as he possesses royal status.

“His invitation to The Sovereign, being of his own accord, will resolve conflicts that would otherwise be inevitable, and will permit him to enjoy the credit of having put both national and international interests above his own, personal ones, in the process gaining him respect that he otherwise will not enjoy.”

Royal aides allegedly want Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to lose their titles following a “disgraceful” jab at Charles and Philip’s parenting abilities.

It occurred after the Duke of Sussex implied that his father had failed him, claiming that he took Archie and Meghan to the United States to “break the cycle” of “genetic pain” from his own upbringing.

According to senior courtiers, the Duke’s attack caused a sensation of “bewilderment and betrayal” in the palace.
