You may not think about a pregnancy announcement as a weapon, but in this day and age, where gender reveal parties are held with high explosives, it makes sense.

A royal expert has described Princess Beatrice’s decision to declare her pregnancy on the third wedding anniversary of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “revenge.” The timing of the announcement was “interesting,” according to Katie Nicholl, Royal Editor of Vanity Fair, who added that “revenge is a dish best served cold.”

Meghan Markle is said to be concerned over the timing of her cousin-in-law Princess Beatrice’s pregnancy announcement.

Princess Beatrice and her new husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, revealed the good news with a short statement early Wednesday morning:

“Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in autumn of this year. The Queen has been informed and both families are delighted with the news.”

Princess Beatrice married property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in a private ceremony at Royal Lodge in Windsor last summer.

They started dating in October 2018 and declared their engagement in September of the next year. Edo, as he was known by friends, proposed to the Princess with a platinum and diamond engagement ring while on vacation in Italy.

Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus of Studio 10 debated whether the announcement was timed to overshadow the Duchess of Sussex’s third wedding anniversary to Prince Harry on Thursday.

Is it possible that it’s all a coincidence? Given the past between the Duchess of Sussex and Princess Eugenie, it’s unlikely.

Some royal fans speculated that the announcement was made ‘to spite Meghan and Harry on their third wedding anniversary.’

During Eugenie’s wedding to Jack Brooksbank in October 2018, Meghan was accused of committing the cardinal wedding sin of taking the bride’s spotlight. That was the day Meghan decided to announce her pregnancy, according to insider guests. Meghan allegedly told a gathering of assembled relatives and friends right there at the wedding.

Natasha Exelby, a newsreader, accepted that it was a likelihood.

Not only was this a social faux pas, but it may also have been more of a case of carelessness. Some say it was Meghan’s retaliation after she was refused the emerald-studded Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara she wanted for her wedding, and Eugenie was allowed to wear it instead just five months later!

‘Do you think Beatrice would be thinking about that [Meghan] when she’s making the announcement?’ Sarah wondered.

No she wouldn’t, she’d be happy that she’s having a child and so is everyone else,’ Tristan, 38, said.
