According to defense counsel, Morgan Freeman’s step-granddaughter E’Dena Hines informed her boyfriend-turned-killer Lamar Davenport that the actor had been discreetly sleeping with her, confirming years-old accusations about the romance.

According to the New York Daily News and the New York Post, Davenport’s lawyer Beth Unger said that before Hines’ death in New York City in 2015, Hines “disclosed to … Davenport and others that her grandfather engaged in a sexually inappropriate relationship with her.”

Therapists stated in the New York court that Davenport acknowledged to causing many of their arguments by discussing the affair between Freeman and Hines.

Dr. Jeremy Colley said, “Lamar admitted to me that they had a violent relationship. [Their] disagreements could be emotionally intense.”

This isn’t the first time that Freeman’s Hines, the daughter of an adopted child of Freeman and his first wife Jeanette Bradshaw, Deena Adair, has been accused of having an improper affair with him.

Freeman and Hines have been the subject of such rumors for over a decade, dating back to 2009 when The National Enquirer published a story saying that the Hollywood A-lister had been having an affair with his step-granddaughter for years.

Freeman has known Hines since she was a small girl and has been a part of her life for years, despite the fact that they are not blood relatives.

A friend of hers was also quoted in the magazine as stating she intended to marry the actor.

Freeman was said to be preparing to marry Hines three years before her terrible murder, although they both fiercely denied being romantically linked.

“The recent reports of any pending marriage or romantic relationship of me to anyone are defamatory fabrications from the tabloid media designed to sell papers,” Freeman stated in a statement in 2012, according to TMZ. “What is even more alarming is that these fabrications are now being picked up by the legitimate press as well.”

“These stories about me and my grandfather are not only untrue, they are also hurtful to me and my family,” E’Dena stated in a statement at the time.

According to authorities, the 33-year-old was stabbed 25 times outside her Manhattan building by her drug-induced partner in 2015.

She was discovered lying in the street outside her home at 3 a.m. and taken to a nearby hospital, where she was declared dead.

If convicted of second-degree murder, Davenport faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison. His lawyers are arguing that he is insane.

Davenport’s counsel believe that he is not guilty of the violent crime due to insanity because he was in the midst of a PCP-induced psychosis at the time of the attack.

“Mr. Davenport did not possess the intent to kill Ms. Hines,” said Colley. “My opinion was that he lacked substantial capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness of his actions and know the nature and consequences of his conduct.”

Hines and Davenport, a rapper, had been sharing a $780,000 apartment purchased by Freeman for Hines.
