Prince Harry’s hair loss has increased since moving to the United States with wife Meghan last year, and he will be totally bald by the age of 50 if he does not take action now, according to a renowned UK cosmetic surgeon.

The Duke, on the other hand, is balding at a slower rate than Prince William and is ten years behind his elder brother in terms of hair loss.

According to Dr. Asim Shahmalak, Harry is balding more slowly than his younger brother, Prince William, who began balding at the age of 26.

“Harry is 36 and at the same stage of hair loss as William was when he was 26. The baldness gene is not as strong in Harry but he is still losing his hair quickly,” Dr. Shahmalak told the Daily Mail, noting that the majority of the royal’s hair loss is now centered around the crown region.

“He has a growing bald patch right across his crown and you can also see that his hair is also thinning out towards the front,” he said.

“Without treatment, the acceleration we have seen over the last 15 months will only increase over the next year. Harry may never be as bald as his brother William.

“William has been more affected than any of the royal men.

“He inherited the powerful baldness gene from his father Prince Charles, who got it from his father Prince Philip.

“With each generation, the hair loss appears to be getting worse which can happen in some families.

“An added factor is that there is also a hair loss gene on Harry and William’s mother Diana’s side. Her father, Earl Spencer, was also bald.

“The baldness gene can be passed down on both sides of the family.”

The progress of the brothers’ hair loss can be seen in a video taken in 2009 at RAF Shawbury in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, when they were both still serving in the military.

Prince William was 26 at the time and had the same degree of male pattern baldness as Harry has today.

William, 38, has lost almost all of his hair on the top of his head during the past 12 years, while Harry’s hair loss has been slow.

However, Dr. Shahmalak believes that the balding process has increased in the past two years. He also warned Harry that if he does nothing to prevent it, he would be almost totally bald by the age of 50.

Prince Harry and his brother received the baldness gene from their father, Prince Charles, who inherited it from his grandfather, Prince Philip. Earl Spencer, Princess Diana’s father, was also bald. Aside from genetics, the Duke of Sussex is believed to be losing his hair at a quicker pace since he and Meghan Markle stood down as senior royals and came to America.

He said: “No two brothers are the same, but both William and Harry have inherited the same baldness gene. It is too late for Prince William and there is nothing that can be done to reverse his hair loss.

“Harry still has time if he wants to take action.

“Harry will be almost as bald as his older brother at 50 if he does nothing, though he will probably have a little more hair at the front of his scalp.”

While it may be a hereditary component, the NHS lists stress as a major cause of hair loss – and Harry and Meghan’s relocation to the US is far from stress-free.

While the pandemic may have delayed things, the ease of lockdown procedures has resulted in an increase in visits at his world-renowned facility, which is fully COVID-compliant.

“People have saved up money during the lockdowns and now they are ready to spend,” he said. He also credits the surge as coming from people’s desire to recover from home.

“It is also easier to have a hair transplant when you are working from home. You can stay quietly at home during the recovery period and stay more anonymous while the new hair grows back.”
