On her first encounter with the monarch after her wedding, Meghan Markle connected with the Queen despite her misunderstanding about royal procedure.

All eyes were on the newly ennobled Duchess of Sussex as she walked a few paces behind the queen for a series of engagements in Chester, near to the border with Wales, and the couple were spotted laughing and speaking together multiple times.

Since the former Suits actress married Prince Harry, royal admirers have been asking how she bonded with the leader of ‘The Firm.’

What observers didn’t realize was that, behind the camera grins, there had been an embarrassing episode with the younger woman’s choice of headwear.

However, it has now been revealed that Meghan, who officially joined the Royal family five weeks ago, did not wear a hat.

According to the Daily Mail, the Queen’s advisors informed her that she would be wearing a green bonnet to honor those who died in the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Meghan, who was still learning the subtleties of Palace procedure, didn’t realize she was expected to follow suit.

As a result, the Queen was perplexed when her granddaughter-in-law arrived bareheaded.

According to a top aide: “I don’t think the Duchess fully understood. This was not a request. Those are for others to make, not the Queen.”

The Duchess’s error, or “lack of deference even respect, had been duly noted, particularly by the Queen’s senior staff.”

The Queen has maintained a deep interest in Harry’s bride. Even his grandmother’s corgis adore Meghan, as he stated in his engagement interview, and would run over to lie at her feet.

Another incident of misunderstanding occurred throughout the day’s activities when Meghan was unsure which of them was expected to enter the limousine first.
