Prince Harry furious with Queen after aides snubbed Meghan Markle

Prince Harry couldn’t conceal his displeasure about how his potential wife Meghan Markle was being handled by palace aides from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

According to the writer of Finding Freedom, royal reporter Omid Scobie, Prince Harry and the Queen had a heated discussion regarding one of the Queen’s main aides.

Several palace sources spoke to the two journalists on what contributed to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s exit from the British royal family as senior members.

The 35-year-old was allegedly enraged with the 94-year-old reigning monarch’s longtime dresser, Angela Kelly, and claimed she “deliberately dragged her feet” in granting the 39-year-old access to a specific tiara for their wedding day, according to DailyMail.

Omid Scobie says the Duke of Sussex called his grandma and said: ‘I don’t know what the hell is going on, but this woman needs to make this work for my future wife.’

Mr Scobie said in an interview with True Royalty TV that the exasperated call came during an apparent squabble with Her Majesty’s long-time dresser Angela Kelly about whether Meghan, 39, would be allowed time to try on her wedding tiara during a trial with her hairdresser ahead of the big day.

Ms Kelly, a trusted confidante of the Queen, is said to have enraged Prince Harry after she ‘deliberately dragged her feet’ after Meghan requested access to the tiara before the couple’s wedding in May 2018.

The former American actress’ choice of a royal tiara was allegedly a source of contention, according to the article. The Grenville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara, which was worn by Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie at her royal wedding six months after the Sussexes’, was claimed to be the first.

“Harry felt that there were those within the situation that would stop at nothing at the very least to make Meghan’s life difficult,” Scobie said.

‘Harry had to intervene,’ Mr Scobie said. He called his grandmother and said, “I don’t know what the hell is going on. This woman needs to make this work for my future wife”. And of course, we can kind of see now where this “what Meghan wants, Meghan gets” narrative came from.

‘Harry felt that there were those within the institution that would stop at nothing at the very least to make Meghan’s life difficult.’

It’s uncertain why this phone call was not retold in the same way in the biography, which claims Harry didn’t think Ms Kelly was ‘truly unavailable’ to help with the hair trial and that she was ‘purposefully ignoring Meghan.’

It states: ‘What followed between the prince and Angela was a heated exchange that was far from the typical restraint expected. According to a source, Harry had no problem confronting the issue had on. “He was fed up,” said the aide… In the end, Harry had to speak to his grandmother about the situation. And she got her trial.’

According to the authors, a senior Buckingham Palace official said that the Duke of Sussex was being “oversensitive” when he accused Ms Kelly of attempting to make it complicated for Meghan, but a source close to the prince said that “nothing could convince Harry that some of the old guard at the Palace simply didn’t like Meghan and would stop at nothing to make her life difficult.”

The ‘tiara row’ symbolized the Sussexes’ dissatisfaction with the Palace’s so-called ‘vipers.’ Ms Kelly’s failure to arrange for Meghan and her American hairdresser Serge Normant to have access to the glittering Queen Mary bandeau headpiece whenever they wanted was seen by Harry as a “huge snub.”

‘Meg had flown her hairdresser over from Paris for a hair practice and they needed the tiara,’ a friend said.

‘Angela Kelly said she couldn’t come to London [from Windsor] and Harry went ballistic. He was furious at the treatment of his then fiancee. Such a snub.’ Others, however, believe the couple misinterpreted Ms Kelly’s answer.

‘Meghan demanded access to the tiara,’ a source reported. She didn’t schedule a meeting with Angela, but she did say, “We’re at Buckingham Palace, we want the tiara. Can we have it now please?”

‘Angela essentially said, “I’m very sorry, that’s not how it works.” There’s protocol in place over these jewels. They’re kept under very tight lock and key. You can’t turn up and demand to have the tiara just because your hairdresser happens to be in town.’

“Nothing could convince Harry that some of the old guards at the palace simply didn’t like Meghan and would stop at nothing to make her life difficult,” a person close to the Duke of Sussex told the reporters.

Scobie also told True Royalty TV that after the pair agreed to step down as senior royals, Harry and his older brother Prince William have not talked to each other properly.

He said that the brothers had not spoken since about the time of the Sandringham summit. “They hadn’t seen each other. They’re really going to take some time to heal. I think the distance between the brothers grew wider and wider. And that’s partly because of things that take place – and we discuss them in the book.”

Mr Scobie claims that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s decision to step down from their royal duties strained the relationship between the brothers.

‘I think really where it went wrong for Harry and Meghan and the Cambridges was that decision to go public with the road map to their new working model,’ he says.

‘The statements weren’t discussed internally. That’s really what caused the most amount of hurt to William, because he wears two hats.

‘He’s not just the brother, he’s also future king and he felt that damaged the reputation of the family.’

‘That it put family business out into the public domain when it should’ve been discussed privately and there was a lot of hurt there that continues to this day.’
