Velardi made it clear that she knew about Williams’ fondness for women.

“He loved women. Absolutely loved women. And I got it,” Valerie says in the documentary.

“I understood and I wanted him to have that. But I also wanted him to come home,” she added.

The Sun reports that the couple met in 1976, before Robin’s rise to fame, when he was working as a bartender.

Valerie reminisced, “He was bartending. He had a French accent, offered me a drink, chatted me up and was absolutely delightful.”

“He asked me for a ride home. He was speaking French and I was teasing him and we had a kiss. And I just knew I was going to see him again.”

Their relationship ended a decade later, and Williams’ next romantic involvement was with the family nanny, Marsha Garces, from 1989 until 2010.

His final marriage, before his passing, was to Susan Schneider. Contrary to what many may believe, she did not marry Williams for his humor…

He had a knack for lighting up any room.

However, at home with his wife, things were different. Williams was contemplative and intellectual.

“The man at home, my husband, he was quiet, contemplative, an intellectual. The standup and acting, that was his work,” she told The Guardian.

Schneider emphasized that she would never have married the late actor if he had been the same as he was on TV and in movies.

“Robin and I loved to go to museums together. He was a big history buff, so he would bring the history and I would bring the art side and we would double our fun.”

“People tend to assume that the guy he was on stage was the guy he was at home, and let me make it clear: I would never marry somebody like that.”

The start of their relationship was quite serendipitous in 2007.

Susan Schneider Encountered Robin Williams by Chance at an Apple Store in 2007

While at the Apple Store, Susan noticed a man who closely resembled Robin Williams. As she was leaving, she glanced at him again, and in that moment, Williams smiled back. That was the beginning of their journey together.

Schneider recounts the encounter, “I walked in and saw this man and I thought: ‘I think that’s Robin Williams.’ Then on my way out I happened to look at him again and he was smiling at me and something inside me said: ‘Oh, just go over and say hi.’

“He was wearing camouflage print so I said: ‘How’s that camo working out for you?’ And he said: ‘Not too good – you found me.’”

The couple married four years later in 2011, solidifying their bond.

Unfortunately, Robin passed away in August of 2014.

While the world lost a talented and beloved performer, his family lost a quiet, intellectual, and loving husband and father.
