Adam Sandler has claimed that Brendan Fraser’s award-nominated role in George of the Jungle made Sandler “feel bad” about himself.

The two actors appeared together in the 1994 musical comedy Airheads, with Fraser going on to play the titular character in George of the Jungle in 1997.

In a conversation for Variety’s Actors on Actors, Sandler joked that Fraser was “supposed to remain like us” rather than getting “very jacked” for the role.

Fraser responded that George wears a loincloth, to which Sandler replied, “You did right by the character. But you did wrong by us, man. You made us feel bad about ourselves.”

Fraser revealed that at the time, he had been “starved of carbohydrates” and even forgot his PIN number at the ATM due to lack of food.

“I would drive home after work and stop to get something to eat. I needed some cash one day, and I went to the ATM, and I couldn’t remember my PIN number because my brain was misfiring. Banging on the thing. I didn’t eat that night,” he remembered.

Currently, Fraser is making a Hollywood comeback in a completely different role. In The Whale, he plays Charlie, an obese and reclusive English teacher who struggles with disordered eating.

His performance in the film has already made an impressive splash among critics, with The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab lauding Fraser’s performance as “one of those sad-eyed performances” that “many audiences will find very hard to resist.”

Fraser’s career has seen him star in a variety of roles, from the titular character in George of the Jungle to the adventurer Rick O’Connell in The Mummy trilogy.

Sandler, on the other hand, is known for his comedic roles in films such as The Wedding Singer, 50 First Dates, and the Grown Ups franchise.

He has also ventured into more serious roles, such as in the drama Uncut Gems and the upcoming Netflix film Hustle. Both Sandler and Fraser have proven to be versatile actors, with the ability to tackle a range of different roles.

Despite their different career paths, it is clear that the two have a deep respect for each other’s work and their friendship remains strong.
