Bradley Cooper and Renée Zellweger were in a relationship for two years, despite never publicly acknowledging it.
The two first met on the set of the supernatural thriller Case 39 in 2006, but the movie was not released until three years later.
By that time, Cooper had achieved success with The Hangover and the couple reconnected. Despite never officially confirming their relationship, they were often spotted doing couple-y things like house hunting and meeting each other’s parents.
When asked about Zellweger being his girlfriend in 2010, Cooper said, “I just can’t.” However, he had no problem praising her professionally.
“I can’t say enough about her. I just love her. I [loved] coming to work,” he said. “I love acting with her. I can learn so much from her.”
Zellweger also praised Cooper, saying, “He’s a great, great actor. I just got so excited, not believing that I was going to go to work with him.”
The couple were so low-key that many people forgot they even dated. In 2011, they called it quits on their relationship, with sources saying that Cooper’s career ambitions were what led to the split.
“If I had to pick any possible mistress, it would be Brad’s career,” a source told Us Weekly at the time. “He worked really hard to get into leading man status. Renée had to take a backseat.”
They added, “She’s accomplished a lot of her professional goals, so Renée took some time out to be a great girlfriend and see if this is what it took to make a relationship work.”
After their split, the two remained on good terms and were spotted supporting each other at various events over the years.
In 2020, they were seen sitting together at the Oscars, with it appearing that no time had passed between them at all.
Their relationship may have ended a decade ago, but it is clear that the two have remained close and have a deep respect for each other’s careers.
