Marvel Fans Upset Over Horrible She-Hulk CGI

The She-Hulk trailer nearly broke the record for most views, but not because of its quality; rather, it is so horrible that everyone was curious to see it.

Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters, Bruce Banner’s cousin who undergoes her own gamma green metamorphosis after receiving a blood transfusion, in the nine-episode Disney+ courtroom comedy. Over the years, Marvel Studios has released a slew of CGI characters, but this will be the first time a motion-capture figure takes the lead on Disney+.

Tatianna’s She-Hulk makes us feel uneasy. In fact, she resembles a cartoon; she’s just a green person. Is this a Marvel superhero or Elphaba from Wicked? Because, to be honest, she seems like a cheesy musical character. So, what’s up with She-Hulk’s shoddy CGI? Some fan comments are amusingly pointing out the discrepancies.

“She-Hulk as a show looks amazingly fun but the actual CGI looks really unfinished and rubbery. I’m aware it is TV but the Star Wars stuff manages and they have the budgets to adjust,” one fan says.

“The She-Hulk trailer is fun and my gosh I love Tatiana Maslany (she’ll *crush* it in this role) but her post-transformation CGI looks godawful,” writes someone else.

Some have also suggested that Marvel needs to step up its game because it competes with films like Avatar 2.

“Marvel creating horrible CGI again,” one user observed, “and Avatar2 is going to teach them a lesson #SheHulk.”

@graemem snarled, “Nice to see that Marvel honored the early 2000s ‘She-Hulk is Ally McBeal but green’ high concept with some CGI that looks like it came from 2003.”

@RED3CORAT3 added a screencap showing She-Hulk appearing angry, writing, “CGI for She-Hulk looking like a rip-off Sim’s game.”

@puny2008 said, “I hope theyre still working on that she-hulk cgi bc she looks like a human from a 2007 dreamworks feature.”

Andrews Visual, the inventor of TikTok, compared the effects to “a video game cutscene placed into live action:”

“Marvel is a multi-billion dollar franchise, I don’t care that She-Hulk is a TV show, it has to look better than that, it looked like a video game cutscene placed into live-action. So many Netflix/Amazon shows WAY better CGI and VFX. I don’t see an excuse. Hope it improves tbh.”

With a parallel to the Star Wars Disney+ series, writer Christopher Marc commented on the “unfinished and rubbery” CGI, shutting down any budgetary excuses:

“She-Hulk as a show looks amazingly fun but the actual CGI looks really unfinished and rubbery. I’m aware it is TV but the STAR WARS stuff manages, and they have the budgets to adjust.”

Marvel asked that the She-Hulk CGI be made smaller despite the advise of the artists who compared the design to the Ugly Sonic, according to someone who worked on the VFX for Infinity War and Moon Knight.

Visual effects are highly expensive, according to Inverse, and the industry isn’t doing much to accommodate this. “t’s that clichĂŠ: Fast, cheap, and good. Pick two ,” Kerry Conran, the director, explained. “Productions expect you to deliver on all three, but that doesn’t exist.”

The VFX may be difficult to deliver because She-Hulk has a smaller budget than a large blockbuster film. However, because the film is still months away from release, the trailer may not be the final product in terms of She-CGI. Hulk’s
