Images of a distressed Alec Baldwin, who fatally shot a cameraman with a movie prop pistol, brought up memories of an actor who was traumatized for the rest of his life after fatally shooting Brandon Lee with a gun he thought was loaded with blanks.

Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee’s son, died in March 1993 at the age of 28 after being shot with a prop gun on the set of “The Crow.”

Later, it was revealed that a false shell piece had been left in the gun’s barrel. After hours of surgery, Lee died in the hospital.

His name started trending on Twitter as members of the internet community saw parallels between his death and that of Halyna Hutchins.

Eliza Hutton, Lee’s girlfriend, spoke out for the first time about Lee’s deadly accident after Hutchins’ death on Monday, calling both incidents “avoidable tragedies.”

“Twenty eight years ago, I was shattered by the shock and grief of losing the love of my life, Brandon Lee, so senselessly,” Hutton told People. “My heart aches again now for Halyna Hutchins’ husband and son, and for all those left in the wake of this avoidable tragedy.”

Hutton continued: “I urge those in positions to make change to consider alternatives to real guns on sets.”

Shannon Lee, Lee’s sister, manages a Twitter account dedicated to her late brother’s memory.

“Our hearts go out to the family of Halyna Hutchins and to Joel Souza and all involved in the incident on Rust,” she said in a post earlier today (22 October).

“No one should ever be killed by a gun on a film set. Period.”

Lee, who was on the verge of success with his major part in the bizarre thriller, was murdered when co-star Michael Massee fired a prop gun in which a piece of a bullet remained, the Los Angeles Times said at the time.

According to the New York Times, after an inquiry, District Attorney Jerry Spivey declared that no criminal charges would be filed in Lee’s death, stating that while carelessness was a role, there was no proof of criminal conduct.

Lee portrayed a drug-addled thug in “The Crow,” a film about a rock singer who returns from the dead to get revenge on the criminals who murdered him and his fiancée.

The picture grossed $94 million worldwide.

Lee was trained in martial arts and studying acting at Emerson College and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute, following in his father’s footsteps.
