Macaulay Culkin, like other fans of the 1992 Christmas favorite, wants Donald Trump’s appearance deleted from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Kevin McAllister, played by Culkin, is separated from his family and finds himself in New York. Kevin runs into Trump at the Plaza Hotel at some point. When he asks Trump for directions to the hotel lobby, Trump points him in the right direction.

However, following last week’s pro-Trump riot at the US Capitol and subsequent demands for Trump’s impeachment, some fans want the president to be removed from the 1992 picture.

Culkin replied to a tweet that asked “petition to digitally replace trump in ‘home alone 2’ with 40-year-old macaulay culkin” with the single word: “Sold.” Culkin then responded with a “Bravo” to another tweet that had a humorous cut of Trump with empty space.

In a December 2020 interview, director Chris Columbus revealed that Trump “did bully his way into the movie” by requesting a cameo in return for shooting in the hotel, which Home Alone 2 had already paid for. Chris Columbus, the director, stated, “Trump said OK. We paid the fee, but he also said, ‘The only way you can use the Plaza is if I’m in the movie.’ So we agreed to put him in the movie.”

“When we screened it for the first time, the oddest thing happened – people cheered when Trump showed up on screen,” Columbus recalled. “So I said to my editor, ‘Leave him in the movie. It’s a moment for the audience.

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) made headlines in 2019 when it removed Trump’s appearance from “Home Alone 2” while screening the film on Christmas Day. Despite the fact that fans applauded the CBC for removing Trump from “Home Alone 2,” the studio stated the decision to eliminate the appearance was made due to a time and schedule conflict. Trump mocked the CBC on Twitter at the time, writing, ““I guess Justin [Trudeau] doesn’t much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade! The movie will never be the same! (just kidding).”

CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson issued the following statement in reaction to the Trump family’s responses: “The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. These edits were done in 2014, when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.”

At the time of publication, a petition on change.org to replace Trump with Joe Biden has gathered 189 signatories.
