Dustin Diamond, a former child star, was given a four-month prison term on Thursday for stabbing a man in a Wisconsin bar brawl on Christmas Day.

According to the Associated Press, Wisconsin Judge Paul Malloy condemned the 38-year-old actor to prison on Sunday due to guilty misdemeanor convictions of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct that were returned last month after a three-day trial.

In addition, Diamond was acquitted of the criminal charge of reckless endangerment.

Diamond departed the courthouse without making any comments while appearing teary-eyed.

Malloy said the sentence “has to send a message to the community that we’re just not going to live like this.”

When the guilty convictions were announced on May 30, Diamond’s attorney remarked, “We’re happy with the results, we think that justice has been done. The jury did a good job.”

The actor said to the jury that he pulled out a knife that day in an effort to fend off onlookers, including a lady who had attacked his girlfriend. Then, he said, during a struggle, he unintentionally stabbed a guy.

Diamond’s girlfriend was held accountable for disorderly conduct for her participation in the altercation.

Diamond said, “I was fearing for her life and safety.”

The geeky “Screech” from “Saved by the Bell” in the 1990s, Diamond, 38, apologized for his behavior on “a night that centers around celebrating peace and love.”

He told the judge that the altercation was the “single most horrifying event of my whole life” and added, “I want it to be obvious that this circumstance will not be replicated again.”

Adam Gerol, the district attorney for Ozaukee County, testified throughout the trial that Diamond had manufactured his testimony and lied about what had really occurred.

The night of the brawl, Gerol handed a Port Washington police officer the body camera video of Diamond’s remarks. Diamond first claimed in the video that he could have hit the victim with a pen. Later that evening, Diamond said in a videotaped deposition that he had a knife at the pub but hadn’t stabbed anybody.

According to the article, Diamond said that he did not purposefully stab the patron in the pub but rather that there had been a commotion and that he had been grabbed and had to swing his arms to escape.

The individual who was stabbed said to authorities that he didn’t first feel cut or see a weapon. According to police, the injury was not potentially fatal.

Milwaukee is 25 miles north of Port Washington.

Since his appearance in the well-liked 1990s television program about students at Bayside High School, Diamond has faced several lawsuits for unpaid taxes and foreclosure actions for unpaid mortgages. He has recorded a s=x video, starred on reality TV, and most recently produced The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story, a tell-all documentary for Lifetime TV.
