Sarah Jessica Parker has shared her experience of sexual misconduct and harassment by a male co-star on set.

Speaking on NPR’s Fresh Air podcast, Parker revealed that she had experienced countless instances of men behaving inappropriately throughout her career in the film industry.

However, she recalled one incident, in particular, involving a “very big movie star” that stood out in her memory.

Parker did not reveal the identity of the actor but said that he was not only behaving inappropriately, but he was also failing to live up to his contractual obligations.

She felt that she was not in a position to speak up, even though she had every right to say that the behavior was inappropriate.

Parker said, “I didn’t feel entirely in a position — no matter what my role was on set — I didn’t feel as powerful as the man who was behaving inappropriately.”

The situation became so bad that Parker had to ask for her representative to intervene.

She said, “I felt I was no longer able to convey how uncomfortable this was making me, how inappropriate it was.”

Her agent then gave an ultimatum to the production team, saying that if the behavior continued, Parker would leave the set immediately and not return.

Parker said that after the intervention, she felt safer and more confident to finish what she had agreed to do.

She did not have to dread potential conversations or listen to jokes about her or her figure.

She said, “All these men. All these men. That stopped.”

Parker’s experience is not unique in the entertainment industry, where many actresses have spoken out about sexual harassment and misconduct.

The Me Too movement began nearly two years ago, and since then, numerous high-profile individuals have been exposed for their inappropriate behavior.

Parker said that it was only recently that she recognized how many experiences she had that aligned with the Me Too movement.

She added, “I started recognizing countless experiences of men behaving poorly, inappropriately, and all the ways that I had made it possible to keep coming to work or to remain on set.”

She also said that she did not want to be seen as a victim and that speaking out was a way to empower herself and other women.

She said, “I don’t want to be the person that is victimized and put upon…I think that speaking out in ways that feel as powerful as I can make them is really important, and that it does change things.”

Parker’s story highlights the power dynamic that exists on film sets and the fear that many actresses feel when it comes to speaking out about inappropriate behavior.

She said, “I think we’re in a really interesting, dangerous, and important place right now, and I think we’re finally starting to hear voices that have been silenced for a long time, and it’s deeply exciting and scary.”

Parker’s experience also shows that sexual misconduct and harassment can happen to anyone, regardless of their position in the industry.

She said, “It’s not just the one person who is the abuser, it is the system around them, it is their enablers, it is their friends who are turning a blind eye.”

Adding, “I think it’s really important that people are held accountable, that we have structures in place to make sure that people are not being harmed, and that there are consequences for that.”

Ultimately, Parker hopes that her story will encourage other women to speak out about their experiences. She said, “I’m hoping that it will give somebody else the courage to speak out, to feel less alone, to feel like they can confront someone who behaves poorly or inappropriately and, you know, maybe end up having some kind of success in stopping that behavior.”
