Sally Field discussed her former relationship with the late actor Burt Reynolds during an interview on The View.

The 71-year-old actress revealed that she had not spoken to Reynolds in 30 years, despite him reaching out to her through the press.

“He would do the Today show and say, ‘I need to tell Sally…’ Well, okay!” Field said, adding that Reynolds would try to contact her about things he could have easily called her on the phone about.

Field and Reynolds dated for three years and were on-and-off for two. She described Reynolds as a “hugely important part” of her life but emphasized that their relationship only lasted a short period of time.

Despite not having spoken to him for three decades, she said that he will always have a special place in her heart and in her history.

During the interview, co-host Sunny Hostin mentioned that Reynolds had referred to Field as the love of his life.

Field responded, “Well, in retrospect,” referring to the fact that it took Reynolds several decades to publicly acknowledge his feelings for her in a 2015 Vanity Fair interview.

Field’s comments on The View come after she discussed her relationship with Reynolds in her new memoir, In Pieces.

In the book, she wrote about their 1977 meeting on the set of Smokey and the Bandit, describing it as “instantaneous.”

Field said that she and Reynolds were “sort of, you know, deeply entangled” and that there was “some ingredient” between them that had to do with her caretaking and him needing to be taken care of.

During a sit-down interview with Diane Sawyer on Monday night, Field described Reynolds as a “complicated man” and said that she was “flattered” by his feelings for her.

The actor died earlier this month at the age of 82, leaving behind a legacy of iconic performances in films such as Deliverance and Boogie Nights.

Reynolds was known for being private about his personal life, and his relationship with Field was no exception.
