Actor Kevin Spacey is facing charges of indecent assault and battery for allegedly gr0ping an 18-year-old in 2016.

The teenager is the son of a Boston TV anchor, and the incident occurred at the Club Car Restaurant on Nantucket.

Spacey is due to be arraigned on January 7th, 2019. If convicted, he could face up to five years in prison.

Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe announced the charge on December 24th, 2018, in a statement.

The clerk magistrate issued a criminal complaint against Spacey during a hearing on December 20th, 2018.

The charge marks the first criminal case against the actor since he faced a string of sexual misconduct allegations over a year ago, which led to the collapse of his career.

Shortly after news of the charges became public, Spacey posted a video on YouTube called “Let Me Be Frank.”

The video features him delivering a monologue in the voice of Frank Underwood, his character from the Netflix show “House of Cards.”

Underwood was killed off after allegations of sexual misconduct against Spacey emerged.

In the video, Spacey said, “Of course some believed everything and have just been waiting with bated breath to hear me confess it all; they’re just dying to have me declare that everything they said is true and I got what I deserved.”

He also stated, “Soon enough, you will know the full truth.”

A spokeswoman for the actor did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The first accusation against Spacey came from actor Anthony Rapp, who said Spacey climbed on top of him when Rapp was 14 and Spacey was 26.

Other accusers followed Rapp’s lead.

Spacey was subsequently fired from “House of Cards,” and his performance in the movie “All the Money in the World” was cut and reshot with Christopher Plummer.

Spacey’s accusers also include former news anchor Heather Unruh, whose son accused the actor of gr0ping him in 2016. Unruh’s son did not report the assault immediately because he was embarrassed.

Mitchell Garabedian, a lawyer for Unruh’s son, said in a statement, “Let the facts be presented, the relevant law applied and a just and fair verdict rendered.”

Spacey remains under investigation in Los Angeles for an alleged sexual assault that occurred in 2016. Prosecutors declined to file charges over a 1992 allegation due to the statute of limitations.

The case against Spacey marks a rare criminal prosecution in the #MeToo era.

While Harvey Weinstein is awaiting trial in New York, many other cases have been too old to prosecute, and some accusers have declined to cooperate with authorities.

Spacey was one of the first and biggest names to be ensnared in the #MeToo movement, which was sparked by sexual assault and harassment allegations against Hollywood studio boss Harvey Weinstein in October 2017.

He has also faced accusations of sexual misconduct during his tenure as artistic director of London’s Old Vic Theatre.

The actor has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct.
