David and Victoria Beckham, the famous couple, are known for their high-end lifestyle and their successful careers.

However, in 2005, they made the decision to terminate the employment of one of their nannies, Abbie Gibson, for leaking rumors about their marriage to the press.

The Beckhams filed a lawsuit against her as well.

It all began when Gibson was quoted in a seven-page report in the News of the World. She claimed to have witnessed the Beckhams fighting frequently.

“One night I woke and heard them arguing on the landing and heard David call Victoria a [expletive deleted]”, she said, adding that Victoria had confided in her at one point.

“The next day, I asked Victoria if she was alright,” Gibson continued. “She started crying and said, ‘I don’t know what to do. He is on about splitting up, he told me, ‘I want to split.’ I am walking on eggshells. I have to make sure I don’t trigger another argument. I have asked him to stay with me until the baby is born. I think things are slipping away from me.'”

At the time, it was reported that Gibson had quit her position a month before the Beckhams filed the lawsuit against her for breach of confidence.

David later described the violation of trust as “amazing” and “unbelievable.”

He said to reporters in Madrid where he was playing for Real Madrid, “When you invite people into your home to look after your children…you need to be able to trust them.”

David also clarified that he had no intention of leaving Victoria. “What I will say, though, is that the reason I keep my mind on football is that me and my wife are happy,” he said.

“We are normal people, although people might not think that. Of course, we have arguments like everybody, but, at the end of the day, I know that I love my wife.”

The Beckhams have dealt with a number of divorce rumors throughout the years. In 2003, David was photographed with a mystery woman in a Madrid nightclub.

Later, she was identified as his assistant, Rebecca Loos, whose brother John Charles had told the Daily Mail at that time: “She has confirmed to me she had an affair with David.”

David denied the allegations, saying that he’s “very happily married” and that he has “a wonderful wife and two very special kids.”

He added that “there is nothing any third party can do to change these facts.”

In 2018, the couple was rumored to be splitting up again. At that time, an insider slammed the gossip but alluded to some issues.

“Over the years, Victoria has fought hard for her marriage, and for David,” the source told People. “She never gave up when someone else might have.”

That year, the singer-turned-fashion designer also opened up about trying her “hardest” to balance her career and her marriage to David.

“I try really, really hard. I try hardest to be the best mother,” Victoria said at the 2018 Forbes Women’s Summit in New York City.

“I am trying to be the best wife and the best professional. When I get home I try to put the phone down and spend time with the children and spend time with David.”

In July 2022, the couple marked their 23rd anniversary by going on a trip all over Europe — looking more in love than ever.

Victoria told Grazia in May 2022 that she and David have made it this long because they have “so much respect” for one another. She also praised her husband for being “supportive” of her.

“David is an incredible dad, and husband, and he’s very supportive of my work.”

“We are really good partners, and we have been able to make it work for such a long time because we have a strong foundation of love and respect for each other.”
