Jordan Peele is back with a new film that is sure to scare you.

The official trailer for the filmmaker’s highly anticipated Universal Pictures picture NOPE has been released.

The narrative of “Nope” has been mostly kept under wraps up to this point, similar to when “Us” was originally presented. The only details known about the movie when it was announced in February 2021 were that Daniel Kaluuya, who garnered an Oscar nod for his main performance in “Get Out,” would reconnect with Peele, and that Keke Palmer had been cast in a major part. Since then, further details have emerged, with Steven Yeun joining the cast a month later and Barbie Ferreira, Brandon Perea, and Michael Wincott joining the cast later. Peele also presented the film’s first official poster, which shows a foreboding cloud hanging over what looks to be a carnival, with a kite streamer flowing underneath it.

Nope is a remake of the summer thriller about dwellers of a lonely gulch in inland California who “bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery,” according to the film’s press release.

As caretakers at a horse ranch, Kaluuya and Palmer aim to make it big in Hollywood as professional horse handlers. The brilliant skies and desert farm are suddenly overtaken by black clouds and a mystery force that has an influence on animal and human behavior.

“What’s a bad miracle? We got a word for that?” Kaluuya’s character intones.

During an April 2021 interview with Refinery29, Palmer stated of working with Peele, “It’s just the kind of thing that’s serendipitous. Things are aligned. It’s like the things you wish for actually coming to fruition.”

Peele has a knack for crafting terrifying movies, as seen by his release of the horror picture “Us” in 2019.

“I had this weird love-hate where I would if I got to sneak a horror movie at a friend’s house, there was nothing more I would want to do,” Peele told NPR in 2019. “Then, of course, it would keep me up at night.”

Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions label has developed a number of projects after the premiere of “Us” in 2019, including HBO’s “Lovecraft Country” in 2020 and Nia DaCosta’s “Candyman” last year.

“Nope” is written, produced, and directed by Peele. Ian Cooper also acts as an executive producer, with Robert Graf as a co-producer. The picture was filmed on Kodak film and will be distributed in a 65mm IMAX format in addition to standard formats. Hoyte van Hoytema, who most recently lensed hefty science-fiction films like “Ad Astra” and “Tenet,” is the cinematographer for “Nope.”

“Nope” arrives in cinemas July 22.
