Sebastian Stan, who starred in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, is already a busy man in 2022, as he is due to feature in the forthcoming action picture The 355 with some of Hollywood’s most renowned ladies. Stan couldn’t avoid questions about his character Bucky Barnes on the press tour for The 355, and he said that he doesn’t know when he’ll be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, in which Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson assumed the Captain America mantle – and Bucky came to grips with his past as a merciless assassin – was the actor’s last appearance as the role.

ComicBook asked Stan whether he knows when he’ll return. He responded, “I don’t, I really don’t. I haven’t known that for ten plus years, I always am very happy when I get to live another day, hopefully before I get too old. We’ll see, anything is possible.” The Winter Soldier had previously announced Mackie’s role in Captain America 4 on Instagram, with the two-word caption: “Hell. Yes.”

“We’ll see, anything is possible,” Stan said, trying to give Marvel fans a positive outlook.

Following the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in April 2021, it was reported that Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Captain America for a fourth film. Despite participating in the previous three Captain America films, it is still uncertain if Stan will join the hero in the forthcoming action flick, according to Deadline.

Stan was also questioned about his favorite Marvel moments from 2021 during his conversation. He acknowledged to enjoying WandaVision. Stan remarked that he loved seeing a different side of Wanda and Vision in the series. In the year 2021, he also mentioned Black Widow as a favorite, saying, “Black Widow obviously is always going to have a soft spot in my heart.” Eternals and Spider-Man: No Way Home are two films Stan has yet to watch. “I still need to catch up,” Stan said.

Stan’s absence from the fourth episode would be surprising, to say the least.

“It varies, project to project, cast to cast,” Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently said of the studio’s new talent acquisition method. “Really, what we want are people that come in, are excited to be in the universe, are excited at the opportunity to do more things, as opposed to being locked into contractual obligations.” In the past, Marvel was renowned for locking stars into multi-picture commitments.

If Stan reprises his role as Bucky in another film, he’ll most likely appear in Captain America 4 or Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Only time will tell whether or if the character will return, and if so, where.
