Tom Hiddleston, who plays Loki, is looking forward to showcasing the redeemed version of the trickster god in Season 2.

Hiddleston discusses Loki’s transformation from villain to charming hero in an interview with Variety with other performers like Michael C. Hall (Dexter: New Blood) and William Zabka (Cobra Kai) on redemption arcs on television. Hiddleston spoke briefly about how Loki’s redemption is brought about by him realizing he has a choice in who he becomes and how he heals past wounds and resolves conflicts with Thor. Hiddleston also stated that seeing Loki’s persona and qualities portrayed in a more heroic light while maintaining what makes him known and adored was “exciting.”

Hiddleston said, “I understand the audience sees good in Loki — they want him to get past his internal and external obstacles. They want him to repair that relationship with his brother and step into the hero that he can be.”

“He realizes, ‘Actually, I can choose my path and choose to do the right thing. Or I choose, at least, not to repeat the same old tricks that I repeated over and over in a cycle of trust and betrayal.’ It’s exciting to retain all the characteristics that makes Loki, Loki, and at the same time to play slightly different music within him,” the actor added.

Hiddleston previously told TV Insider that the character development in this film was very different from the MCU’s trek to Infinity War.

“This Loki is the Loki who lost the Battle of New York at the end of the first Avengers film. This is the Loki who went through the story of that first Avengers film,” Hiddleston elaborated. “He arrived on Earth, he had the Tesseract, he was captured by S.H.I.E.L.D. and imprisoned and had lots of interrogation by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury and Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, and he invites an alien army to attack the city of Manhattan and is defeated by the assembled Avengers.”

Loki season 2 picks up where season 1 left off, and Loki is not only free to choose his fate, but he’s also one of the few beings in the Marvel Cinematic Universe who knows the truth about the multiverse. While filming on season 2 isn’t set to begin for some time, prior reports stated that Hiddleston will appear with Mobius (Wilson) and Sylvie (Di Martino) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, bringing him into Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) trip across numerous universes. Even while Loki and Sylvie’s acts may not be seen again for a while, their consequences will be felt in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, when Major’s Kang the Conqueror makes his complete appearance.
