According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ice Cube has quit Sony’s forthcoming comedy Oh Hell No after rejecting a request from the producers to be vaccinated.

The “Friday” star allegedly walked away from a $9 million payout with co-star Jack Black by allegedly refusing to receive his shots.

He committed to act in “Oh Hell No” in June, with the assumption that it will film this winter in Hawaii with Kitao Sakurai, the director of Netflix’s hit successful comedy “Bad Trip,” according to the publication. However, it’s worth mentioning that the film’s development was apparently delayed due to an injury suffered by Black while filming a scene for the final episode of “Conan.”

According to THR, the film’s producers made it clear that all cast and staff members were obliged to be vaccinated. The studio is on the lookout for a substitute for Ice Cube.

Ice Cube has spoken out in support of wearing masks during the epidemic. Bacone College commended N.W.A. for sending 2,000 face masks to the school in August. Ice Cube released a line of T-shirts called “Check Yo Self Before You Wreck Yo Self” in April 2020, featuring photographs of him wearing a mask. On Instagram, the rapper stated that all earnings from the T-shirt sales went to front-line health-care employees.

Although it may seem like a lot to pass on merely to dodge the shot, Oh Hell No isn’t the first film Cube has left this year. According to THR, the rapper was set to feature in Universal’s Flint Strong, a boxing film. Cube also departed the project a few months ago. It’s unclear if this had anything to do with the set’s top-down vaccination requirements. Cube has yet to issue a remark on the matter.

Several Hollywood unions and studio officials negotiated a tentative deal about COVID-19 safety standards on sets in July, according to TheWrap, allowing companies to demand vaccines for cast and crew who work in “zone A” where primary filming occurs. This contains members of the cast. As a result, performers must choose between being vaccinated and walking away from potentially lucrative roles. In fact, SAG-AFTRA’s national board had already adopted identical standards that permitted producers to impose vaccine requirements.
