Britney Spears’ new lawyer has accused her father of attempting to extract $2 million in payments from her before stepping down from the conservatorship that governs her life and finances, a move that has been compared to blackmail in a court document.

According to a letter filed by lawyer Mathew Rosengart, the conservatorship’s forthcoming accounting, which James Spears claims he wants completed before he steps down, will result in large compensation for him.

Spears’ attorney Mathew Rosengart stated, “Britney Spears will not be bullied or extorted by her father,” “Nor does Mr. Spears have the right to try to hold his daughter hostage by setting the terms of his removal.”

He added: ‘Even putting aside the legal issues requiring his prompt removal, if he loves his daughter, Mr. Spears should resign now, today, before he is suspended. It would be the correct and decent thing to do.’

Jamie Spears is attempting to use his influence to compel his daughter’s estate to pay $1.3 million in attorneys’ costs, $500,000 to Spears’ old management firm, and further payments to Jamie Spears personally, according to a filing on Monday by Rosengart.

Although Spears has previously denied wrongdoing and defended his handling of his daughter’s finances, a spokesperson for Jamie Spears did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Spears’ father decided to stand down as conservator last month, which her supporters hailed as a huge victory in her fight to be released from the conservatorship she has been under since 2008. Jamie Spears, on the other hand, didn’t indicate when he’d stand down, just that he’d do so “when the time is right” and that “the transition needs to be orderly and include a resolution of matters pending before the court.”

Britney Spears is hopeful that the conservatorship will be revoked after 13 years, allowing her to restore authority over her personal and financial decisions.

Rosengart’s petition makes it clear that he has no interest in negotiating Jamie Spears’ removal and instead expects Judge Brenda Penny to order his removal at the next court hearing, which is scheduled for Sept. 29.

Jamie Spears stated that he would oppose any attempt to evict him, claiming that there was no basis for doing so and that he had always behaved in his daughter’s best interests.

In an open court hearing on June 23, Spears slammed the conservatorship, claiming it was harsh and unwarranted, breaking years of public silence on the subject. Samuel Ingham, her court-appointed counsel, resigned from the case, and Spears was allowed to employ Rosengart to replace him.

She said on Instagram, “I was told to stay quiet about things for so long and I finally feel like I’m just getting here.”

Jamie Spears was the subject of much of his daughter’s wrath in a pair of court appearances in June and July, in which she branded the conservatorship “abusive.” Spears said she was forced to wear an intrauterine device for birth control, was forced to take medicines against her will, and was barred from marrying, having another kid, or even traveling in her boyfriend’s car without supervision.

At the time, the 39-year-old Spears stated, “This conservatorship is doing me way more harm than good.”  “I deserve to have a life.”

Jamie Spears had previously been accused by Rosengart of enriching himself at his daughter’s cost and of “dissipating” her money. Jamie Spears has denied misconduct and defended his financial management of Britney Spears.

Mr. Spears is required to stand down without condition and without demanding anything more from his daughter, Rosengart said, having finally realized that his time as Conservator should come to an end.

After stepping down as the administrator of his daughter’s personal life in 2019, James Spears has only been in charge of her finances since 2019.
