After pictures of Milano in what some have referred to as “blackface” emerged this week, she has spoken out, vehemently denying the claims.

On Tuesday, she blasted a newspaper for claiming she was involved in a “Blackface scandal” on Twitter.

The 47-year-old Charmed actress shared a snapshot of a headline on Tuesday, saying that she was receiving “backlash” over a resurfaced “damning” photo that sparked blackface worries.

A conservative website, LifeZette, posted a photo of Milano parodying “Jersey Shore” and Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi’s tan, saying that the actress was “facing backlash” as a result of the photo that had “come back to haunt her.”

The photograph in question, according to Milano, was taken from a Jersey Shore parody for a Funny or Die skit in December 2009.

She responded tweeting, “Hey, a**holes. The below picture is me parodying Jersey Shore and Snookie’s (cq) tan. Snookie’s tan (she is a sweetheart by the way) is worthy of parodying as is Trump’s ‘tan.’”

“So go f—k yourselves with your smear campaign.”

Milano also tweeted a YouTube link to the skit, which shows her through a time-lapsed cosmetic metamorphosis into reality TV personality Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, now 32, with her signature spray tan.

LifeZette’s representatives have been contacted for comment by CNN.

Polizzi’s representative declined to respond to CNN. Polizzi was born in Chile and adopted as a baby by Italian-American parents.

The actress-turned-political activist has addressed the footage of herself in dark brown makeup for the second time. She informed her Twitter followers that “right-wing trolls” were accusing her of wearing blackface, and she shared the footage as a means to put the incident in perspective.

She wrote, “If you see the screen grab that they are using maybe you can shut them down with a link to the entire video.”

Milano’s supporters defended her, with one telling the outlet to “do your homework first.”

They said:

Its not black face. Please do your homework first. And learn a little history.

That is not “blackface.” It’s clearly an exaggerated tan like Snooki had when she was on Jersey Shore. Look at the lipstick. It’s on point for Snooki, @Alyssa_Milano. — Cami Sheffield (@CamiAnnS)

The actress discussed “cancel culture” on Monday, saying that it is being “weaponized” to silence opponents of President Donald Trump’s administration, which Milano has spoken out against.

“Cancel culture is being weaponized by the right/Putin. Take notice of who they are targeting & what is trending. Are they trying to hurt Trump’s most vocal critics? Yup,” she wrote. “The misinformation campaign has begun. Be vigilant in what you post on social media. Truth still matters.”

During the recent global reexamination of race and racial injustice, the issue of blackface became a hot topic in Hollywood. Several programs’ past episodes featuring a character in blackface have lately been removed from streaming sites, and late-night presenter Jimmy Kimmel apologized when old footage of him acting in blackface surfaced.

In a lengthy statement, Kimmel, 52, said, “I have long been reluctant to address this, as I knew doing so would be celebrated as a victory by those who equate apologies with weakness and cheer for leaders who use prejudice to divide us. That delay was a mistake. There is nothing more important to me than your respect, and I apologize to those who were genuinely hurt or offended by the makeup I wore or the words I spoke.”

Alyssa also tweeted a link to a 2013 Funny or Die video in which she and a companion act as though they are filming a sex tape. Milano joked that the next thing critics would try to “take me down with” will most likely be this sketch.
