For his upcoming film, The Tax Collector, actor Shia LaBeouf had his whole chest tattooed permanently. The artist posted photos of his enormous tattoo on Instagram.

LaBeouf portrays Creeper, a tax collector for a local criminal lord who takes his earnings from gangs, in the soon-to-be-released crime thriller. To fully embody the persona, the actor opted to be tattooed with the tattoo that his character Creeper would wear throughout the film.

David Ayer, who helmed the criminal thriller, says LaBeouf, with whom he previously collaborated on the film “Fury,” has high respect for his dedication to his profession.

Ayer told Slashfilm, “He’s one of the best actors I’ve worked with, and he’s the most committed to body and soul. He had a tooth pulled on ‘Fury,’ and then on ‘Tax Collector,’ he got his whole chest tattooed. So he kind of goes all in, and I’ve never known anyone that committed.”

Shia revealed the tattoos earlier this year, and they reflect his dedication to the job.

LaBeouf’s whole chest tattoo bears his character’s name, “CREEPER,” printed in all capital letters over his lower belly. A tattoo of a lady laying her head on what looks to be a clown is seen above that. On his left shoulder, there’s also some ink of “Route 071” signpost.

Artist Bryan Ramirez congratulated the actor for his hard work by posting photos and videos of the chest piece on Instagram. “Shia grew up in Echopark and came back here to give back to his community by getting this tattoo,” he said. “He could have gone any where but he decided to keep it in the comunity and took his time to work with me and the reservoir thank you for the trust and opportunity.”

Ramirez revealed the evolution of LaBeouf’s tattoos, which he claims date back to the 2003 film “Holes.”

“Some people ask is #shialabeouf tattoo real???” Ramirez wrote. “Yes it’s pretty real we started this back when we where filming the movie holes….on going sessions on this chest piece thanks for the trust on such a meaningful tattoo of your mom and pops stay tuned for the movies this guys got coming this year can’t wait to see much love homie.”

While one might debate whether or not this amount of devotion is beneficial, it is undeniably something that few performers would undertake for a part. Shia LaBeouf had a tooth extracted on Fury, as David Ayer explains. That wasn’t all, however. He shaved his head and maintained his hygiene to a bare minimum, according to reports. Again, this is rather outlandish conduct. It remains to be seen if LaBeouf will regret having a tattoo on his whole chest for a part that is now over and done with.

“The Tax Collector” which also stars Bobby Soto and George Lopez, is set to hit theaters on August 7.
