Bella Thorne claimed she was bisexual on Twitter years ago, but the former Disney actress has now redefined her sexuality.

In an interview with “Good Morning America” that aired Monday, Bella stated that she is pansexual. Many people, though, are unfamiliar with the term.

“I realised recently I’m actually pansexual and I didn’t know that,” Bella explained. “Somebody explained to me really thoroughly what that is and I am pan.”

“You like beings. You like what you like,” Bella added when asked what it meant. “Doesn’t have to be a girl or a guy or a he, a she, a they, or this, or that. It’s literally you like personality. You just like a being.”

A pansexual person is drawn to people of all genders. “Not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity,” the dictionary defines.

Bella said, “I like sexy. I like sexy girls, I like sexy guys, I like sexy in general.”

According to GLAAD President & CEO Sarah Kate Ellis, while celebrities are pushing pansexuality to the forefront of the media, the notion is not new.

Pansexuality is defined by GLAAD as attraction to persons of all sexes or genders, regardless of their identities – in other words, pansexuality ignores sex or gender in attraction.

Bella has previously been outspoken about her sexuality, and until recently, she was in a polyamorous relationship with YouTuber Tana Mongeau.

The announcement was revealed during the press tour for the 21-year-book, old’s Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray. She had a horrible year in which a hacker tried to blackmail her with sexual images, among other things. Thorne preemptively uploaded the photos ahead of time. Thorne’s book is a compilation of poems that contains writing about her sadness as well as sexual abuse she suffered. She says it started when she was six years old and lasted until she was in her adolescence.

In 2018, Janelle Monae stated that she identifies with aspects of bisexuality and pansexuality. Amandla Stenberg stated in 2016 that she would use the term “pansexual” to describe her sexuality, although she usually refers to herself as bisexual because many people are unfamiliar with the term.

“I identify publicly as bisexual. I would also use the word pansexual to describe my sexuality. The thing is, I use the word bisexual just because I feel like for people who don’t necessarily know that vocabulary…it’s easier to say I’m bi,” Amandla explained at the time. “So, I understand that erasure piece.”
