During a recent interview on “LIVE with Kelly,” pro wrestler-turned-movie star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson revealed how a Freedom High School teacher and football coach changed his life’s course.

Rocky played division one football for the Miami Hurricanes before becoming a multi-time WWE Champion and one of Hollywood’s biggest stars, and he has kept active in the sport with his HBO program Ballers.

Johnson says he believed he was too good to use the ordinary boys’ toilet at school, so he slipped into the teacher’s lounge to use their lavatory during the school day. Rock felt horrible after being caught and cursed out by a teacher (Jody Cwik), and went to apologize the next day. Johnson claims that the apology and handshake that followed changed his life.

Johnson was mentored by Cwik, who recruited him to the Freedom football squad.

Who knows whether The Rock would have gone on to be one of the greatest action stars in the world, let alone a renowned wrestler, if he hadn’t joined the school football team. It just goes to show how much of an influence teachers can have on their kids.

Cwik, who graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1973, was a standout lineman for the Stateliners and Kutztown University.

He died of cancer in 2006, unfortunately.

Cwik worked as a teacher and coach for more than 20 years after graduating from Kutztown. He worked as an assistant at Garden Spot and Reading high schools before moving to Bethlehem to teach and coach, finally becoming the head coach at Freedom.
