People shouldn’t “assume” a person’s sexuality, according to Chloe Grace Moretz.
The actress plays an LGBT teenager who is transported to a rehabilitation camp in the new conversion therapy film The Miseducation of Cameron Post.
However, many members of the LGBT+ community, as well as celebrities, have weighed in on the issue of non-LGBT actors playing LGBT roles, although Moretz claims that people are no longer categorizing themselves by gender.
“Just don’t assume, do you know what I mean?” she stated during the London premiere.
“I think what’s important about this film is there’s a line in there where she says, ‘I don’t see myself as a homosexual, I don’t see myself as anything’.
“I think that’s the future we’re moving in to. If you talk to a 12 or 13 year old, they don’t speak about gender as this label they were born as.
“They talk about fluidity, they talk about finding themselves for who they are. I think that’s important not to assume, any actor, any person, who they are, what they are, trying to label them or get them to tell you what you want to hear.”
