Zac Efron admitted to Matt Lauer on The Today Show this morning that the object that fell out of his pocket during his movie premiere wasn’t a Lorax.

While on the red carpet, a condom dropped from Efron’s pocket, and he had no qualms about confessing it during a light-hearted appearance on the show.

“I never really had a pocket checking policy before going on the red carpet before,” Zac remarked when Matt asked him to explain what occurred. “But now we’ve fully instated one.”

“You want to take me through what happened?” Lauer asked Efron, to which the actor replied with a smile, “I don’t want to take you through it.”

Lauer sputtered, “You dropped a… a condom on the floor.”

“Yeah,” Efron confessed sheepishly. “Which was really hard for you to say.”

“Better to be safe than sorry, right?” Lauer prompted.

“It’s a great message,” the embarrassed actor agreed. “To add to the many messages in the film.”

Lauer stated that Efron was setting a positive example for the Hairspray star’s ardent fans by advocating safe sex.

“It’s nice at 24 you can still blush a little,” Lauer joked.

“I can’t help it right now,” Efron said.

With a smile, the 17 Again actor stated, “That’s a great message to add to the many messages in the film.”

We like how he’s managed to make the most of a bad situation.

Efron then went on to discuss his new production firm, as well as his forthcoming feature, The Lucky One.

Zac Efron also spoke out about his addiction.

The 26-year-old High School Musical graduate added of the THR interview, “You know what, I think it was a weight off my chest. It was great. It was a fantastic time.”

“It was a rough year,” he said of his time in recovery and the months leading up to it. “It’s kind of funny—you know, Neighbors is such a great sort of icing on the cake for all this. I was able to kind of channel all of that and put it back into this movie. And I feel great,” he continued. “I feel really blessed to be here working with this group of guys. I don’t know—it couldn’t be better right now.”

Costar Dave Franco (James Franco’s younger brother) accepted, stating that he believes the film will help him improve his image. “I’m really excited for Zac, just because I know a lot of people have this preconception of who he is, and once you see this movie, I think his teenybopper image is going to be completely shattered, and all these new projects that wouldn’t have come to him otherwise are just going to flood [in].”

It’s never one specific thing. I mean, you’re in your 20s, single, going through life in Hollywood, you know? Everything is thrown at you. I wouldn’t take anything back; I needed to learn everything I did,” he said. “But it was an interesting journey, to say the least.”
