According to a friend, French actor Gerard Depardieu has apologized for the “humiliating” event that caused him to be removed from a flight to Dublin.

According to various sources, legendary French actor Gérard Depardieu made quite a stir on a flight Tuesday night when he urinated in the cabin in front of his fellow passengers after the staff informed him he had to wait to use the restroom.

A passenger claims her Paris-Dublin trip was delayed for over two hours.

She also said that, Depardieu, 62, the star of films including “Jean de Florette” and “Green Card,” looked to be inebriated and demanded to use the restroom during takeoff, when passengers are required to stay seated.

Depardieu urinated in the aisle when a hostess requested him to return to his seat, a passenger informed French radio station Europe 1 on Wednesday.

“You could see that he had been drinking, but there were no comments. The hostess was shocked but there was no argument, nothing,” the passenger said.

“I was outraged. When you are an actor, you are not like other people, you do not have to abide by the rules. He could have waited, all the same.”

A representative for City Jet, the Dublin-based airline that flew the trip on Tuesday evening, acknowledged that such an incident had occurred. However, spokesperson Karen Gillo said today that she couldn’t name the passenger who was brought off the aircraft with his two traveling companions and his bags due to privacy concerns.

During a US TV interview, Depardieu, who is best known for his Oscar-nominated portrayal in the 1990 masterpiece Cyrano de Bergerac, chuckled uncontrollably as he recalled the humiliating occurrence.

The actor said relieved himself with an empty bottle, which leaked across the CityJet aircraft from Paris to Dublin’s floor. “The bottle was too small,” the almost 200-film actor told CNN talk host Anderson Cooper. “I am an elephant. I said, ‘Don’t worry, I will clean it up’.”

Edouard Baer, a fellow actor who was traveling with him, claimed his buddy was suffering from prostate issues and had not been drinking.

Baer claimed he had handed Depardieu the container in which to urinate, but it had spilled, according to a statement sent on his behalf to French media.

“Gerard was upset at this and offered to clean up the mess,” he said.

“He has prostate problems and it was very worrying and humiliating for him.

“He was also stone-cold sober at the time. This is not the way he usually behaves.”

Depardieu took a later trip to Dublin after being pulled off the airplane.

He was taking Cityjet to Ireland to shoot Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia.

On Wednesday morning, the airline made a joke about the situation on Twitter. “As you may have seen on the news,” the airline stated, “we are busy mopping the floor of one of our planes this morning. We’d also like to remind all passengers that our planes are fully equipped with toilet facilities.”

Depardieu has acted in over 150 films, including Jean de Florette and Cyrano de Bergerac, for which he received an Academy Award nomination.

For his portrayal of the large-nosed romantic Cyrano de Bergerac in the 1990 film of the same name, he received a Cesar — the French equivalent of an Oscar — for best actor.

He also runs a restaurant in Paris and owns a vineyard in Burgundy.
