Newly released photographs of Marilyn Monroe taken by her makeup artist, Allan “Whitey” Snyder, have emerged, revealing the late starlet’s carefree personality before her film shoots.

Monroe had asked Snyder to help her relax before filming, and in the photographs, the actress can be seen laughing and playing around on set before the cameras start rolling for The River Of No Return in 1954.

The photographs follow the recent release of pictures of Monroe on the set of Niagara the previous year.

Snyder’s archive of photographs, which includes pictures from the sets of several other films, will be sold at auction in Beverly Hills, California, later this month.

Snyder, who was Marilyn’s makeup artist for 16 years, met her during her first screen test at 20th Century Fox in 1946.

Sometimes, Monroe would get nervous on set, especially in the early days of her movie career, and Snyder would photograph her to help her relax and come to life.

This would often happen during down time on film sets.

The photographs in the archive were never intended to be released to the public and some of them even show the actress in costume.

Darren Julien, of Julien’s auctioneers, said that Snyder’s estate had never released the items before.

“There are many other items in the archive as well as photographs, and collectors and institutions will be keen to own them,” he said.

The sale will also include letters and other ephemera and is expected to fetch thousands of pounds when it goes under the hammer at auction.

The newly released photographs capture Monroe’s natural joy as she played up to the camera before her film shoots.

In one photograph, the 28-year-old actress can be seen wearing a flowery shirt, with no inkling of the international stardom that awaited her.

The archive also includes dozens of photographs from other films, including Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Prince and the Showgirl, Niagara and Something’s Got to Give.

The release of the photographs and archive comes after Snyder’s death in 1994.

The archive was recently discovered for sale at auction in Beverly Hills.

One item that stands out in the sale is a rare calendar featuring a picture of a nkd Monroe.

According to Darren Julien, Snyder’s archive provides an intimate insight into Monroe’s life on and off set.

“Whitey was Marilyn’s make-up artist for 16 years and had unlimited access to her,” he said.

“Some of the photographs show her in candid moments, allowing fans to see a side of her they may never have seen before.”

Monroe remains a cultural icon more than 50 years after her death, and her image continues to captivate fans around the world.

Her films and photographs continue to be celebrated, and the release of previously unseen photographs and ephemera is always eagerly anticipated by fans and collectors alike.

The upcoming auction of Snyder’s archive provides a unique opportunity for fans and collectors to acquire rare items that offer an intimate glimpse into the life and career of one of Hollywood’s most enduring and beloved stars.

As Julien noted, “collectors and institutions will be keen to own them.”
