A recent conspiracy theory has resurfaced about actress Lea Michele, best known for her role on the hit show “Glee”.

The theory suggests that the actress is illiterate, unable to read or write. This idea has been circulating for years now and Lea has had to repeatedly dismiss it.

The origin of this conspiracy theory dates back to July 2017, when a 40-minute video was uploaded to Facebook Live by Jaye Hunt and Robert Ackerman, hosts of a pop culture podcast.

The video went viral months later when they made a 10-minute follow-up and it listed the supposed evidence against Lea’s literacy. The videos have since been deleted.

The hosts of the podcast claimed that since Lea started acting on Broadway at such a young age, she never had time to learn to read or write, given her acting commitments.

They also stated that Lea’s Glee and Scream Queens writer and director Ryan Murphy fed her all her lines, since if she were illiterate, she wouldn’t be able to read the scripts.

Lea responded to the fan theory in 2018, calling it the “most bizarre thing that has ever happened in my life”.

In a now-deleted tweet, she replied to a fan linking her to the video by saying, “Loved READING this tweet and wanted to WRITE you back? literally laughing out loud at all this? love you!!!?”

The conspiracy theory has gained traction again due to Lea’s recent casting in the revival of Broadway’s “Funny Girl”.

She was confirmed to replace Beanie Feldstein, who was initially cast in the lead role.

Beanie received criticism for her voice and performance, with Adrian Horton of The Guardian calling it “paper-thin, reedy in the higher registers and overly nasal throughout, (and) noticeably untextured compared to the rest of the cast”.

Lea expressed her excitement about the opportunity on her Instagram, writing, “A dream come true is an understatement. I’m so incredibly honored to join this amazing cast and production and return to the stage playing Fanny Brice on Broadway.”

Despite the conspiracy theory, Lea remains focused on her career and is busy enjoying her role in the Broadway revival of “Funny Girl”.

She will be celebrating her 36th birthday tomorrow and has not let the false allegations dampen her spirits.
