The latest installment of James Cameron’s Avatar franchise, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” has exceeded expectations at the global box office.

With a budget reported to be around $1.4 billion, and the pressure to live up to the success of the original film, the film’s success is all the more impressive.

However, “The Way of Water” has now surpassed the $1.9 billion mark at the global box office, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

After just a month in theaters, the film has already made a significant impact at the box office, particularly internationally.

The film has grossed $1.33 billion internationally, including an impressive $211 million in China – the most any Hollywood film has made in the country since the onset of COVID-19.

With this success, “The Way of Water” is now on track to become the sixth film in history to pass the $2 billion mark at the global box office.

If it continues on this trajectory, it will surpass the box office gross of other blockbusters such as “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

Despite the film’s impressive performance, it still falls behind the original Avatar film, which grossed a staggering $2.9 billion at the lifetime box office – a record for any film in cinema history.

The original Avatar was a groundbreaking film in terms of special effects and CGI, and its impact on cinema is still felt today.

With this latest success, Cameron has once again cemented his status as one of the greatest directors in the industry.

Cameron had previously stated that the future of the Avatar universe would depend on the success of “The Way of Water.”

With such a strong performance at the box office, plans for future sequels are now firmly in place.

In his own words, Cameron “can’t wiggle out of this” now.

Fans of the franchise can look forward to the next chapter in the Avatar universe, with Avatar 3 set to introduce a new narrator, Lo’ak (Britain Dalton), and potentially even a trip to Earth for Neyirtri (Zoe Saldaña) in Avatar 5.

The success of “The Way of Water” marks just the beginning of Pandora’s legacy.
