Anna Kendrick, the 37-year-old actress, has opened up about her past relationship with a “toxic” ex-boyfriend on a recent episode of the podcast “Armchair Expert”.

Kendrick revealed that she and her ex created embryos together before their split.

“I was with someone – this was somebody I lived with, for all intents and purposes my husband. We had embryos together, this was my person,” Kendrick said.

She went on to describe how, around six years into their relationship, she began to feel like she was living with a stranger.

Whenever Kendrick attempted to address the issues in their relationship, her ex would respond with aggressive behavior.

“Whenever I would try to bring up the elephant in the room, he would scream at me until I was curled in a ball, sobbing,” she said.

Kendrick also recounted a specific instance where her ex visited her on set and was acting in a peculiar manner. She mustered up the courage to ask him what was wrong, only to learn that he had feelings for another woman.

“The worst possible thing was, I was like, ‘please don’t say this girl’s name,’ and he started talking about this girl,” Kendrick said.

Despite the clear issues in their relationship, Kendrick said that she blamed herself for its failure and believed that she was lucky that her ex was still tolerating her.

In an effort to salvage their relationship, the couple started attending couples therapy. However, it did not help them as a couple, but it helped Kendrick learn to be okay on her own.

Kendrick said that she started seeing multiple therapists and got involved in Al-Anon, a support group for those affected by someone else’s drinking.

“All of these things ended up being very wonderful things for me in the long run, but initially went into them thinking, ‘Tell me how to stop being crazy. Tell me how to stop feeling anything,’” she said.

Eventually, Kendrick narrowed down her therapy sessions to just one therapist and said she became “totally obsessed” with her.

She credited this therapist with teaching her how to look at her own experiences and decide what she wanted and to start drawing boundaries.

“And that was really scary and really hard but that is what ended the relationship,” Kendrick said.

Through therapy, Kendrick was able to understand the toxic nature of her relationship and take steps to end it.

She also learned how to take responsibility for her own happiness and well-being, rather than placing that responsibility on her partner.

Although her relationship with her ex did not work out, Kendrick said that she is grateful for the experience and the lessons she learned.

“All of these things ended up being very wonderful things for me in the long run,” she said.
