Following the great success of the first two Star Wars films, George Lucas was gearing up for the third installment of the trilogy.

He had planned to call the picture Revenge of the Jedi back in 1983, but that didn’t happen.

The actual reason for George Lucas’s decision to alter the title is still debated. According to legend, Lucas sought to soften the title since Jedi are not trained to pursue vengeance, and he wanted a title that reflected Jedi beliefs more accurately.

According to The Express, many fans feared the title was too gloomy and violated the cherished mythology’s roots. Jedi were immune to emotions like as love and hatred, much less vengeance. Fans voiced their displeasure with Lucas, who eventually caved.

According to another theory, Lucas changed the title on his own since another classic space saga coming out around the same time had a title that sounded similar to his. The film Revenge of the Jedi was set to be released in 1983. Star Trek II: The Vengeance of Kahn was set to be released in 1982. Because Lucas didn’t want his new picture to seem like a copy of another, he renamed it Return of the Jedi. Star Trek folks subsequently renamed their film The Wrath of Kahn.

Revenge of the Jedi was the title provided by George Lucas when he unveiled the third Star Wars film. This was aggressively promoted in a dramatic poster with a black and red color scheme. Then, of course, everything changed. Just five months before the film’s May 25, 1983 release date, Lucas altered the title to the well-known Return of the Jedi. This is despite the fact that the term “Revenge of the Jedi” appearing on merchandise, posters, and even a trailer.

Even though the word “revenge” didn’t make it into Episode VI’s title, Lucas found a way to bring it back into the Star Wars universe with Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, which was released in theaters on May 19, 2005.

Return of the Jedi will always be remembered as one of the best concluding chapters in the Star Wars saga, and it helped pave the way for a new era. While no Jedi sought vengeance in that film, the theme would reappear in the better-suited Revenge of the Sith, which strengthened the tale while also paralleling Episode VI, which might be seen as a dawn to Revenge of the Sith’s sunset. Overall, the numerous name changes have demonstrated that even the finest things take time to sort out, and while this might occasionally result in turmoil, it will always result in brilliance.
