Reacher has been renewed for a second season on Prime Video. The news comes only three days after the Alan Ritchson-led adaptation of Lee Child’s book series debuted on the streaming service, where it has been a huge hit. The series is already among Prime Video’s top five most-watched TV shows of all time, with many fans binge-watching Reacher in its first 24 hours.

Jack Reacher, a military police detective, has lately transitioned to civilian life in the new series. When he arrives in Margrave, Georgia, he discovers a village reeling from its first homicide in 20 years. The authorities apprehend him right away, and eyewitnesses claim to have seen Reacher at the crime scene. A deep-seated plot begins to surface as he strives to defend his innocence.

“The phenomenal debut of Reacher is a testament to Lee Child’s creation of one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, Nick Santora’s original approach to storytelling, Alan’s brilliant embodiment of the character, and the dedication of the talented people who worked tirelessly in front of and behind the camera to make such an undeniably bingeworthy series,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “The global impact of ‘Reacher’ makes it one of Prime Video’s biggest series debuts, and we can’t wait to bring fans a second season of their new favorite show.”

Nick Santora is the showrunner, as well as a writer and executive producer. Along with Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Bill Bost, Lee Child, the author of Jack Reacher, acts as an executive producer. It is produced by Amazon Studios, Skydance TV, and Paramount TV Studios.

In a statement, Child stated, “Partnering with Amazon Studios for season 1 of Reacher was a total delight – they had our backs every step of the way, and it really shows, in every line and every frame. So I’m thrilled we’ll be working together again, for season 2. This is very exciting news, and I can’t wait to get started. Reacher couldn’t be in better hands.”

“The entire Reacher team — cast, production, writers, etc. — is so happy with the wonderful reception the show has received,” Nick continued. “Amazon, Skydance, and Paramount have been such fantastic partners and everyone is excited to roll up their sleeves and get to work on what will be a great season 2.”

Tom Cruise previously portrayed the role in the films Jack Reacher and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, both released in 2012. The new series has nothing to do with those movies. Fans were originally divided about Ritchson’s casting in the series, but it appears that he has done an excellent job of winning over many of them with the premiere of the new program.

Prime Video now has all eight episodes of Reacher season 1 available to watch.
