At a royal event in Cornwall, the Queen insisted on cutting a cake with a ceremonial sword.

While visiting the organizers of the Big Lunch at the G7 meeting in Cornwall, the Queen laughed and joked with Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall as she substituted a knife for a longer blade to cut a cake.

According to People, when she was gently informed that there was a knife ready to cut the cake, she replied, “I know there is. This is something that is more unusual.”

The queen went on to dismiss a suggestion that she use anything else for the task as she prepared to cut into the confection.

“I don’t think is going to work,” the monarch joked just before chopping the pastry.

Camilla aided with the cutting of the cake’s last section.

“That looks very good,” the Queen said.

The three royals were meeting with Cornish community volunteers to thank them for their assistance during the Covid-19 epidemic.

“It’s like comets — they don’t come around very often,” Patrick Stewart, executive director of the Eden Project, an educational charity and eco-destination in Cornwall, said of the royals’ visit.

“The important thing for me was there was every reason not to do it.

“The fact that they judged that with the eyes of the G7 that there was an opportunity — with the risk of missing trains and everything else — to be able to listen to some of the heartfelt stories of people here.

“It was absolutely priceless.”

G7 leaders were invited to a reception with the Queen and other senior members of the family . The meal was held in the Eden Project, a stunning collection of biomes that includes the world’s biggest indoor rainforest.

The Queen’s sense of humour was on show earlier in the day when she posed for a group picture with a few global leaders in celebration of the G7 meeting.

“Are you supposed to look as if you’re enjoying yourself?” she joked as the group posed together, drawing a laugh from the leaders.

“Yes,” replied U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson. “We have been enjoying ourselves in spite of appearances.”

The Big Lunch is an annual event at the Eden Project that encourages people to get to know one another while sharing food and establishing friendships. The Duchess of Cornwall is a patron of the event, which began in 2009.

In 2022, the charity will be a part of the Queen’s Jubilee festivities. The Queen, who is already Britain’s longest-serving monarch, will be the first to commemorate 70 years on the throne, with royal events planned throughout the year to honor the milestone.
