Former President Donald Trump and his family have been out of the White House for six months. The family has kept a low profile since then, until former first lady Melania Trump was spotted arriving at Trump Tower in Manhattan last week.

It was an unusual public appearance for the 51-year-old former first lady, who hasn’t been seen outside of Palm Beach since January, where she and her husband, former President Donald Trump, have been settling in at his members-only Mar-a-Lago Club.

Melania Trump wants to remain out of the spotlight because of the investigations against her husband, former President Donald Trump, according to an unidentified family source.

“She never liked press scrutiny and hates it more now,” claimed the anonymous source. “She will do whatever she can to avoid being photographed or interviewed. She remains low key, enjoying her life with her family.”

Melania Trump reportedly leads her own life and does what she wants, according to CNN, and was not a public presence at Mar-a-Lago, where the Trumps spent the rest of the winter and spring after leaving the White House. Melania was seen with Barron arriving at her old Manhattan residence, Trump Tower, on July 6, 2021, after the former president and his entourage moved to his Bedminster, NJ, golf club for the summer.

Melania was not photographed with her husband when he boarded a plane to Bedminster, New Jersey (home to one of his eponymous golf clubs) in May, but sources tell PEOPLE that for part of the summer, she and Barron will split their time between the family’s Manhattan residence and their Bedminster vacation home.

“While Palm Beach is their main residence, the Trumps go back and forth from New York to New Jersey during the summer season,” an unnamed insider told People. “Melania and her own family do many things together and not necessarily with Donald.”

According to the insider, Donald Trump seems unconcerned with what his wife is up to. “Donald is fine with that as long as she is satisfied, leaves him alone, and makes appearances when needed. Melania is happiest when she is with her own family members, including her son.” According to another insider, she is keen to remain out of the spotlight as her husband deals with a slew of legal problems and investigations. His business, The Trump Organization, was charged with tax fraud on July 1. (via The New York Times).

Melania likes to spend peaceful time with her own family, unlike Donald’s former wife Ivana, who “loved to work as much as he did,” according to the insider.

Melania Trump’s style has become more informal and easygoing since leaving the White House. Melania Trump wore a tan jacket with white trousers, a square bag, and big black sunglasses in New York City on Tuesday.

Trump is now spending the summer at Bedminster, New Jersey. After spending Mother’s Day with a meal at Mar-a-Lago, he was seen loading a lot of boxes aboard an aircraft headed for New Jersey without his wife or kid.

Melania spends most of her time at Mar-a-Lago receiving spa treatments and spending time with the couple’s 15-year-old son, Barron, according to insiders.
