After one season, Netflix has canceled Jamie Foxx’s comedy series Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!

Jamie’s bond with his daughter Corinne, who also produced the series with Alex Avant, served as inspiration for the series.

In an interview with EW, the younger Foxx recounted a real-life embarrassing experience, saying, “I was cheering at my final game in high school, and I look into the crowd and my whole family is there in T-shirts with my face on them. It’s 15 people, and my dad is the ringleader.”

Kyla Drew Simmons played Corrine in the show, while Foxx played himself. David Alan Grier, Porscha Coleman, and Jonathan Kite also appeared in the comedy.

According to Variety, Foxx was involved in the decision not to continue the series, which he co-created with Jim Patterson. Patterson was slated to serve as showrunner, but stepped down before to the start of production, and was replaced by Bentley Kyle Evans.

The first six episodes were directed by Ken Whittingham. The final two were directed by Evans.

“As a central character, Foxx is trying to be both the straight-man heartwarmer and the goofy scene-stealer: he wants to be both Seinfeld and Kramer, as he mugs away trying to paper over the cracks with pratfalls and impressions,” said NME of Dad Stop Embarrassing Me!

“Co-written by Foxx, it’s a throwback where the only concession to modernity, apart from the pop culture references, is the final episode that ham-fistedly tries to reflect post-George Floyd America, but even that’s undermined by shoving in a custard-pie gag. A mortifying misfire.”

Jamie Foxx has worked on several projects for Netflix, including the 2020 action picture Project Power, and will continue to do so on forthcoming films They Cloned Tyrone and Day Shift. Sony Pictures just announced a production partnership with the actor to create feature films. Sony and Netflix established a license agreement in April, so Foxx’s time with the streaming behemoth is far from over.

Other notable cancellations on Netflix include the adolescent drama Grand Army and the graphic novel adaption Jupiter’s Legacy (though a spinoff has been ordered). In addition, both The Last Kingdom and The Duchess were canceled by Netflix in April.
