One of Tom Holland’s recent film performances did not go down well with his mum.

The 24-year-old actor, who played a PTSD-stricken drug addict, texted his mother, Nicola Frost, a gruesome scene that put him in trouble with her! Tom told Esquire magazine about the incident, saying: “Biggest mistake ever. I was like, ‘This is how my day’s going’, and she was furious with me.

According to Esquire writer Allie Jones, the scene that had the actor “writhing around” on the hard floor of a prison cell.

“I guess I wasn’t thinking right, and I was like, ‘Do you know who would really like to see this? My mum,'” he recalled. “In hindsight, it was a really stupid thing to have done. I think when my mum goes to see my films, in particular, the things she likes the most are the moment she goes, ‘Oh, that’s my little boy.’ But in this film there’s nothing like that.”

Apart from the humor, Tom also mentioned that he always seeks Nicola and Dominic Holland’s permission before embarking on new ventures, and that his parents eventually warmed up to his film Cherry. According to Esquire, he said: “They were able to enjoy it as a movie and not a biopic of their son doing heroin. They are really proud, and they really liked it. If I seek anyone’s approval, it would be my parents. That would be the highest level of achievement.”

Joe and Anthony Russo, siblings who directed a number of Marvel films, including Avengers: Endgame, also directed Cherry.

The film is based on Nico Walker’s 2018 book of the same name, which is based on the author’s real-life experiences. Holland shed about 30 pounds for the role of the main character, who returns to Cleveland, Ohio and commits bank robberies.

Holland’s character “travels a great distance over a 15-year period” throughout the events of the film, Joe, 49, told Vanity Fair in November.

“The movie’s broken up into six chapters that reflect those different periods, and each one has a different tone. It’s shot with different lenses, different production design,” he said. “One’s got magical realism. Another chapter is absurdism. Another is horror.”

Joe said, “There’s a bit of gonzo in it. It’s raw in its tone. He’s a character in existential crisis.”
