Titanic’s alternate ending has gone viral after Twitter users slammed it for its ‘cheesy lines’ and ‘hilarious’ acting, which fans have said seems like ‘a parody.’

After being uploaded by Twitter user Pat Brennan, the deleted scene, which is featured as an extra on a DVD version of the film initially released in 2005, is making the rounds.

An elder Rose (played by Gloria Stewart) tosses the ‘heart of the ocean’ jewelry overboard on the actual ending. She does this in secrecy so that no one notices her tossing the precious diamond into the sea.

In the alternate footage, though, she is surrounded by treasure hunter Brock Lovett and his team, who were looking for the valuable diamond.

‘Let me hold it in my hand just one time,’ he says, before smiling and accepting that it would be thrown into the water.

‘You look for treasure in the wrong places, Mr Lovett. Only life is priceless, and making each day count,’ she says.

When it’s gone, he laughs maniacally, then gestures at another crew member who scolds Rose, saying, ‘That really sucks, lady!’

The video has had over 1.3 million views since it was shared a few days ago, and the number is growing. It has also attracted a large number of responses.

Many people were relieved that this version was never included in the final edit, while others pondered if the film would have won as many Oscars if this ending had been shown. A few people also thought it was funny.

“Not going to lie. Seeing footage of Bill Paxton I hadn’t seen really lifted my heart. He was great. The scene is …awful but my god the man sells it,” a Twitter user commented.

“Yeah, the solitary tossing the necklace over the edge was a much better ending. This one is cheesy,” expressed another.

“That would have ruined the film,” a third added.

“So do you think with that ending it still would’ve won best picture and 11 Oscars?” another wrote.
