Stana Katic was abruptly fired from Castle by ABC four years ago, and the actress who plays Kate Beckett now seems to have accepted the ugly incident. A few weeks later, the show was completely canceled.

The 42-year-old Hamilton, Ontario native opens up in a new interview with News Corp. (via the Daily Mail) about being fired from “Castle” before what turned out to be the show’s final season.

“I was confused by the entire experience. I was hurt,”   She admitted. She adds that she is “grateful for the awesome run.”

Stana claims that she can now reflect on her time on the show with nostalgia.

“But look, time has passed and I am so thankful to have been a part of that project, for it to have affected as many people as it did,” Stana stated. “People loved that couple and loved the story we told, loved all of those characters.”

Stana continued: “It would be a disservice to the work that I did, which I feel partly contributed to the success of the show, if I looked back on it and was anything but grateful for the awesome run.”

Although no one associated with ABC or Castle has ever provided an explanation for why the show might continue without Katic, reports at the time of the 2016 incident indicated it was a cost-cutting measure prior to an ultimately disastrous ninth season.

The current Absentia star acknowledged, “I’m actually still not clear on the thought process behind the way that it went down,” before adding, “It hurt and it was a harsh ending,” in a 2018 interview with EW.com.

She quickly added, “I met so many beautiful people [on the show], and we collaborated on something really unique. It would be a disservice to those people, to the work that we did together, and to my work, which I feel contributed, in part, to the success of the show, to be anything but grateful.”

During Season 8, Stana Katic, who portrayed Detective Kate Beckett, one of the show’s main characters, was fired.

“Kate Beckett has been a beloved character on our hit series Castle for the past 8 years. We are grateful for Stana Katic’s talent and dedication to the series and we hope to continue our relationship. Tamala Jones has also been an integral part of the series and we are grateful she was a part of Castle,” ABC said in a statement at the time.

Ultimately, the show wasn’t renewed for a ninth season and the series ended with a happily ever after for Beckett and Castle; though they were shot, they survived and were raising kids together years later.

Castle, starring Stana and Nathan Fillion, ran from 2009 to 2016.
